Keep momentum, don't overswing, and don't open your guard. If you have the simplest of ideas on how such a weapon works, then you can use it pretty effectively. Assuming you're not some turbonerd barely capable of lifting the thing. In that case, get a gun. Infact, just get a gun in general, for self defense. Leave medieval/melee weaponry to the people with a death wish. Like me.

All he did was strike a pose to [i]look[/i] like he [i]could[/i] be violent, while everyone else was either already engaged in a beatdown or attempting to take his sword to actually use it on people.
