I like how no one has really given credit to the guy, and just makes dozens of sweeping assumptions just because he used a Katana.

Have you ever thought that maybe he practices Kendo, or something, and perhaps this is why he was carrying a sword with him? Not saying they use real swords for that, but there is some chance he knew what he was doing and shouldn't be discredited.
