This is a joke(i hope). They got rid of the part of the story where they declared him dead, then used his head and parts of his internal organs to make a cyborg, while his family believes he is dead. They apparently also got rid of the part where he's basically a robot with a human brain, and doesn't actually think for himself, at least until later on, doing everything by the book.
You know, with all these reboots I seriously think there may be hope for a new starship troopers film that (please for the fucking love of christ) wont suck ass like #2 (#3 is debatable, but still bad in general). I enjoyed the original Robocop, so I'll give this a chance too.
I for one would like to see a remake of They Live. Yes, there are two fantastic scenes, but a lot of it isn't really that great. Plus it's set in the present rather than the future, so a modern-day remake could actually bring something new to the table. Imagine Nada putting on the glasses and going online, or looking at phones, social media, or today's TV.
-looks around- -sniff- So is it bad that I've never watched robocop
Looks about as average and tedious as the Max Payne film. It's got an incredible cast but it just looks like it's lost that edge and style of the original film. Like most remakes these days.
Here's a vid if anyone's interested. I believe it had its own thread before. Eh, have it again.
That's actually really awesome.
No one likes the 90s Dredd. You're being silly.
its still going to be better than this.
-looks around- -sniff- So is it bad that I've never watched robocop
eh not really you've just been missing out on a great 80's action flick
Honestly, it does look better than the earlier trailers. But it still looks pretty bad. It's also still ridiculous that they actually thought it was a good idea to include, and advertise, a scene where they actually mock the original Robocop design before replacing it with this ugly new one.
I recall back when JP came out that ILM feared that the future of movie CGI would become overused and click and drag. It's sad how right they were.
I dont mean to turn this into a dredd discussion, but what was so good about the new one? Apart from the actors, the movie basically took place in one building and had him shooting guys (which Im fine with me if it has a story/atmosphere to back it up) until he got to the top. And that was pretty much it. They changed megacity from a crowded, futuristic city to an ordinary city with a couple of big appartment blocks, choose a pretty boring storyline (apart from adding andersons development, that was a nice touch) and there wasn't much else. Where was the burning buildings we saw on the front cover? Why were there only one mutant in the whole movie? Why did they pick such a boring villan? Hell, I thought the corupt judges were better villans than her. I'm not saying it was a bad movie, i just dont understand how it's anything different from this? They could have done a lot more with the Dredd movie, yet, they kept it confined which removed most of the atmosphere that the judge dreed series gave off, just like how they are smoothing things about robocops storyline. It's obviously just my opinion, and I liked judge dredd as an action movie, just not as much as a Dredd movie, and thats how I think this will turn out.

I havent seen Dredd yet but i felt like i should point that out.

Robocop is a remake of an older movie, which means it has a loose storyline that it has to pertain to(which was horribly disfigured as seen in this trailer). Dredd being a comic adaptation gives it more freedom to breathe and, while still having some hollywood sheen, is still a better film than the 90s Judge Dredd movie. But you've got to think about it this way: people who know nothing about the Dredd universe wanted to see it, so they kept it relatively simple. If there's a sequel, there's bound to be more of the comic book environments.
Dredd focused on nailing the grim dystopian feel given off by the comics. Rather than tackling a major storyline like Rico, Block Mania, The Cursed Earth, The Day the Law Died, the Dark Judges, or what have you it just showed a standard day on the job for Judge Dredd.
A car bomb fucked up Murphy? Really? One of the best scenes in the original was is when he got shot to hell by all those gangsters. It was horrifying to watch.
Calling it now, it was placed there by OCP so they could turn him into Robocop.

This makes me wonder why doesn't anyone ever talk about robocop ressurection. I mean, come on
This makes me wonder why doesn't anyone ever talk about robocop ressurection. I mean, come on
What about it?
if you reboot anything at least make it similar agfdgafdgagasd I mean I guess it looks good but god damnit I didn't even watch anything but robocop 1 and I'm saying this
I don't like how Robert cop can open and close his visor whenever he wants. It should be stuck over his face
Whole black/silver suit is gonna be like that spiderman 3 gimmick calling it now,
What I got from the trailer is it's going to be one of those movies where we go back & forth between scenes of the main character & some kind of "command centre" with flashy hollywood effects on the computer screens, and employees saying all kind of pseudo-nerd bullshit to give the illusion to the dumbed down audience that something smart is going on. Seriously they've done this kind of film 10 times already this year and I just saw it happen last week in White House Down. Now Robocop?
Next gen... Sigh...
Looks watchable to a degree but as a fan of the original i can see me having certain gripes with it, i loved the nod to the original armour though.
Calling it now, it was placed there by OCP so they could turn him into Robocop.
it's like the General Grievous origin story but with less Dooku
not something worth watching for $10 bucks though maybe when it's on Netflix or something
That trailer is so horribly generic.
*hyperventilates* WHY
Looks watchable to a degree but as a fan of the original i can see me having certain gripes with it, i loved the nod to the original armour though.
It was more of an insult to it than a nod, they only included it so they could pretend their "tactical" version was better.
To someone who never really gave a single fuck about Robocop, this looks like a decent movie.
I've never seen the original robocop, and i can tell this isn't going to be a very good movie.
