I for one would like to see a remake of They Live. Yes, there are two fantastic scenes, but a lot of it isn't really that great. Plus it's set in the present rather than the future, so a modern-day remake could actually bring something new to the table. Imagine Nada putting on the glasses and going online, or looking at phones, social media, or today's TV.
They Live is a movie that will never need to have a remake and if there is one, it just wouldn't work. The main thing about They Live is that it was such a straight forward movie and it was gritty because they didn't fake a lot of shit in that movie and it was extremely believable because the director knew how to craft it. A lot of directors just can't do that.
The Dredd movie was a comic book adaptation. Robocop is a remake of an older movie, which means it has a loose storyline that it has to pertain to(which was horribly disfigured as seen in this trailer).
Dredd being a comic adaptation gives it more freedom to breathe and, while still having some hollywood sheen, is still a better film than the 90s Judge Dredd movie. But you've got to think about it this way: people who know nothing about the Dredd universe wanted to see it, so they kept it relatively simple. If there's a sequel, there's bound to be more of the comic book environments.
Dredd was great since it was just a day in the life of Dredd in this world and they kept it simple to reintroduce the franchise to a new generation. You can tell that Dredd is just a man and they don't act like he's the do all end all. It's him and his new partner versus an entire gang and it's interesting to see them survive in an outmatched situation and they do it believably.
This makes me wonder why doesn't anyone ever talk about robocop ressurection.
I mean, come on
Because the miniseries was a joke. It's a robocop series where robocop doesn't kill anyone, yet it still tries to have the satire and shit.
Yeah watched it too with a friend of mine, its horrible.
Immediately after looked at the trailer for the first movie, man that was good stuff!
I wouldn't even buy this movie for a dollar.
Some director in Hollywood must've gone, "Shit, I need change for the bus. Better remake a classic 1980s movie."
Now let's watch a classic trailer:

Do you see unnecessary CGI everywhere? I don't.
Wait, why is the terminator theme in this?
Wait, why is the terminator theme in this?
Because the score for Robocop hadn't been made yet
"He suffered 4th degree burns..."
What the fuck there's no such thing
[editline]7th September 2013[/editline]
Ok apparently there is and it's not even relatively close to what was depicted in the trailer.

I'd totally trade this movie for a Dredd sequel.
I haven't even seen robocop and this looks terrible.
I haven't even seen robocop and this looks terrible.
go see it don't bother with 3 though
"He suffered 4th degree burns..."
over 85% of his body
apparently the 15% was his face and right hand
The idea that black = tactical doesn't make sense to me. That aside I kind of like the look of the armor (except the right hand thing, what's even up with that?), but given this is a remake I can see why people would be disappointed. The most glaring issues are the story differences. Just like the total recall trailer threw the real/mindtrip ambiguity out the window, we know robocop's origin from the beginning here. I could maybe see them taking a different angle with it, but if the trailer is anything to go by then it's going to be based around them controlling him (totally predictable).
They shouldn't be taking a different angle to begin with. This is a remake; "updating" it is one thing, but just using certain ideas/designs as a starting point doesn't justify putting Robocop in the title IMO.
The idea that black = tactical doesn't make sense to me.
Most uniforms and weapons are camouflaged to look like their environments, robocop works mostly at night in city environments and shit, soooo
It was more of an insult to it than a nod, they only included it so they could pretend their "tactical" version was better.
Apparently they tried REALLY hard to bash the original, this was in the script:
“What am I, a kid’s toy?”

over 85% of his body
apparently the 15% was his face and right hand
The funny thing is it doesn't look like he has 4th degree burns over 85% of his body. Plus his face seems to be in terrible shape but then he has movie star quality face once in the suit.
Apparently they tried REALLY hard to bash the original, this was in the script:
oh come on, that one is pretty clearly just a joke
over 85% of his body

and the worst part is that i'm totally down for Burnt Skeleton Zombie Robocop
