I actually liked this video.
It was a good video, it was satirical in its own right and it had a good production value.
I might not agree with it, but I feel like it was cheapened because it was used to start a flamewar.
You know I was about to ask some of Facepunch's non-white posters to give their opinion in threads like these, but then I realized that it would be unfair for me to place the burden on them for having to represent their entire community. There's also the chance that some wouldn't want to give up their veil of anonymity since it's what allows them to escape from a racial identity that they may not necessarily want to be associated with at the moment, especially in a potentially hostile environment like this. I could be wrong, however.
It still sucks though, because debates like these almost always have only white people arguing (even on the Left) and we end up getting a lack of perspective from the people whose opinions matter the most.
If PoC posters feel comfortable enough to contribute to the discussion though, then that'd be great.
Shadaez: fuck white peple
dori: yes
wow u leaked sanius squad chat... ur in trouble bud
While there are some actual points of debate in this thread I think it is important to note you tend to find what you are looking for, this holds to true for most things. A coin collector is more likely to spot a silver coin in a pile, a herpetologist more likely to spot a turtle in a pond, etc. So if you go out looking for inequalities you will probably start seeing them everywhere, the problem is when you become so focused on them that you cant see much else. Some people here purposely choose not to see discrimination, others focus too much on it.

I'm here, though I'm probably not the best example considering how disconnected I am from "black culture".
ok:
it's not OK for white people to say the n-word
bam I think that means i'm more educated than the rest of the thread
context is literally everything. you're not more educated than anyone you're just more of a crybaby
context is literally everything. you're not more educated than anyone you're just more of a crybaby
I think we should stop taking Shadaez seriously. He seems like he's just fucking with everyone to me.
i don't get the deal with touching hair people touch my hair all the time cause it's hella long. this movie doesn't look very funny
context is literally everything. you're not more educated than anyone you're just more of a crybaby
OK there's like .01% of scenarios where it might be OK for a white person to say it
I'm so sorry for ignoring that tiny minority.

you guys need to realize you're looking at this through your privilege (not referring to rellow)
hi people, your 'check your privilege' jokes aren't funny and aren't even being used in the correct context, please quit
[editline]13th March 2013[/editline]
I love how you're making an n-word joke in a thread about a funny video examining racism, while at the same time saying that "fast threaders" and "GDers" are the problem

I'm here, though I'm probably not the best example considering how disconnected I am from "black culture".
Nah you don't have to be connected to "black culture", your opinion is still relevant because racism doesn't care whether you're assimilationist or rebellious (hence racism, duh), it still affects you in the end and the subjective views that you hold (even if I might not necessarily agree with them) can still be useful in drawing a bigger picture of the situation.
Also I'm sorry for sounding like such a patronizing white liberal lol
No, but you're saying, "I don't care that I'm hurting an entire race of people". That is the decision you're making. Sounds pretty racist to me.
Says the suburban white man with a strong case of white guilt.
Says the suburban white man with a strong case of white guilt.
do you purposely flame and try to get yourself a ban every time a thread like this pops up

you could say "the n-word" and people know what you're referring to still, though, if someone was ignorant of the english language and still didn't know what word then sure, tell them privately, but anything more than that is probably bad.

I'm just saying, who is he to even speak for black people if hes not even black.
I cant speak on behalf of Asians, so why should he be able to speak for black people.

I was referring to Shadeez calling everyone who isnt black racist.
I don't get this whole check your privilege thing? what does it mean?
I'm a brown/black person, do i get privilege??
I was referring to Shadeez calling everyone who isnt black racist.
I never said that.
I don't get this whole check your privilege thing? what does it mean?

yeah, male privilege
I don't get this whole check your privilege thing? what does it mean?

As I understand it the simple fact that there is always someone worse off than you means that everyone has privilege. Be it male privilege, first world privilege, straight privilege, etc. So I figure just try be a good person and not worry about it too much.
I may be wrong though seeing as I never see the phrase irl, and at least for me it normally only comes up in internet debates.
you could say "the n-word" and people know what you're referring to still, though, if someone was ignorant of the english language and still didn't know what word then sure, tell them privately, but anything more than that is probably bad.
Saying the n-word rather than nigger, to someone who you know will not be offended by it, or in a context where it would not be construed as racist. Arbitrary. pointless. Why would I censor myself like this.

And, saying "n-word" just makes you sound like a child too afraid to say a naughty word.
Maybe it is because institutionalized racism doesn't exist against white people.
Nation of Islam, New Black Panther Party, Israelite church of God in Jesus Christ, and more, not to mention the illegal government land seizures and beatings of white farmers in Zimbabwe
Yeah, it does exist, it may not be be as widespread, but it's evidently there
And don't even try to spin this on me, these guys as well as every white supremacist group are as bad as each other
you could say "the n-word" and people know what you're referring to still, though, if someone was ignorant of the english language and still didn't know what word then sure, tell them privately, but anything more than that is probably bad.
i hate it when people use "the n-word" personally. if you are going to say nigger in an academic or neutral context then just say the word. it isn't like saying "the n-word" doesn't already send the message of the word into the listener's head.
we shouldn't be afraid of using nigger, fuck, shit, pussy, or any of those bad words simply when talking about the meaning or context of these words. contextual implications are important, if i am not using the word in a way that is meant to harm people, or meant to marginalize the suffering of a group of people, it shouldn't be taboo for anyone to say it.

idk so people don't think you're racist? hmm
I don't get this whole check your privilege thing? what does it mean?

privilege is the idea that someone is endowed greater opportunities in life without merit. it goes into a greater context of "privilege and oppression"(oppression being treated worse because of belonging to a certain group). we all suffer oppression and have privileges in certain situations, cultures, and communities. whites, men, and rich people are more privileged on average, and blacks, women, and poor are more oppressed on average. however, you might find yourself in a community or situation where being white or rich might actually cause you to be oppressed, although those situations would be the minority.
the idea is that you should be conscious of your privileges and oppressions, although people have seemed to twist that into the joke "check your white/male privilege!" which is completely dumb considering people actually do have privilege.
