So thanks to stuff like the documentary 'King of Kong', the Donkey Kong world record battles are probably one of the main things people think of when they hear about Twin Galaxies. For the last 3 and a half years it's just been two guys going back and forth on the record, and one of them (the world recorder holder until only last month) just chimed in on this whole dispute that next to last paragraph. yeaaa it's probably about time for TG to just die already
Ben Heck actually built a circuit that uses a microcontroller to read the RAM of an actual atari 2600, and then wrote a program to determine the exact optimal inputs. He could only get a 5.57.
i dont think this was posted but i might be wrong the speedrun community arnt perfect but they handle things way better than TG did dunno if i agree that real hardware should be used though, does that mean you have to run from a real cart as well? nes/snes collecting can be prohibitively expensive especially if you want to run some obscure game or variant and there are a lot if popular arcade games where its not practical at all
Its such a shame this has gone on this long. twin galaxies looks so bad, even if they strike all his records, the fact this went on this long is very telling
I'm so fucking confused as to why some of these people are given leeway on faking speedruns. Like The Yoshi Island streamer. Why are you even playing the devil's advocate, dude was pushing his runs and 'tech' he discovered in runs that weren't real as 'true' speedruns and world records. Like. Full stop. He was bragging about fake things, I don't care about the excuse, he's a liar, and that should be enough. Obviously there are cases where players turn it around and go legitimate, but like, don't even try and justify it
Here's a goodie for you guys about fake speedrunners that no one talks about In Japan, the speedrunning community tends to be pretty dedicated, but a certain "speedrunner" arose from niconico live to do a live RTA run of Super Mario World, all with commentary (but no webcam view), he was actually pretty good, until shit started smelling foul, people were initially suspecting the run was fake, all due to his awkward commentary at times and some redflags setting off. The stream afterwards was kinda awkward and some people were smelling bullshit coming from him, but here's the cherry on the shit pie After fighting Bowser and saying some uh, "eccentric" shit (It's Mcdonalds Bowser!), he finishes him off and goes straight into the credits, relieved after lying to a whole audience, the credits roll in and he blabbers around. After all that, he did the biggest motherfucking mistake in his life. The final screen faded in, after butchering the word "The End" by saying ザ・エンド (Za Endo) instead of ジ・エンド (Zi Endo), out of nowhere Japanese subtitles show up in the bottom screen, translating to "Thank you very much for viewing until the end". This was the biggest giveaway, he got incredibly nervous and after that catastrophic event, attempted to nervously click out of the video he was actually playing, his mouse clicks being audible and his mouse cursor being visible. So you there you have it, not only was this guy DUBBING live over footage of an already existing speedrun from another user, he did such a shitty and embarrassing job that he's still being mocked to this day. It took off in Japan and people would start commenting "ザ・エンドってね" on every time a speedrunner would finish their game. Pop Team Epic recently referenced this incident too, if you're curious, here's both videos. We have notified Guinness World Records of our decision.
Honsetly, after reading that thread it was pretty obvious that if they didnt do that the TG board would probably explode
Twin Galaxies Low% WR - Todd Rogers
It shouldn't of taken them this long to come to a unanimous decision that he forged his records. What a shit show.
Even after kicking Todd to the curb, Twin Galaxies' reputation seems pretty much trash at this point. That those scores were accepted at all is shameful, and it seems incredibly unlikely that Todd was the only one faking his scores - he was just the only one stupid enough to be caught so easily. If I were them, I would reclassify every run without video evidence as suspect or unofficial. Sucks for the ones that were legit and done back when video wasn't required, but if you can't prove it your record is unproven. Video can be faked but is difficult to do and often easy to detect. Ideal evidence would be synced video of a direct game feed and the player with a visible latency-testing controller lightboard (to record inputs), but that's not a setup I've ever seen used.
TG's rep was fucked no matter what the outcome was. If they didn't remove his scores in the face of the overwhelming evidence nobody would trust them ever again their community would have entered into a meltdown. By removing his scores they show that their verification's aren't trustworthy and as such most people won't take them seriously. It was a lose/lose for TG. It was just a matter how how big a loss they were gonna take. Removing all his scores and notifying Guinness was the best possible outcome to not have their community implode and maintain at least a modicum of dignity and trustworthiness. The time it took to get this sorted out is just shameful tho. Now all they have to do is chuck Ron's scores out because he was doing the exact same shit.

They really just seemed perfectly content to keep sweeping this under the rug. But whatever, at least he's FINALLY gone.
have you guys read the post right before the tg decision post? http://www.twingalaxies.com/showthread.php/175364-Dispute-Dick-Moreland-Atari-2600-VCS-Dragster-NTSC-Game-1-Difficulty-B-Fastest-Time-Player-Todd-Rogers-Score-05-51?p=945909&viewfull=1#post945909

There is still Ron Corcoran tho who despite being in jail has not had all his scores removed when he did all the same shit that Todd did. Nope, for him it's on a per score basis. [editline]29th January 2018[/editline] TG will never live this Todd Rogers fiasco down. It will the albatross that hangs over the site until the end of time.
