Last year is overrated. How many games from 2016 will be remembered in a couple of years and hailed as absolutely great games worth playing? Maybe Doom will be it. But other titles are subjective, I feel.
Well, Overwatch will be huge for years. Battlefield 1 was the first big WW1 game, and may be the last, so maybe that one. Then the new Hitman game finally brought the series to its roots and is very well received(except the online requirements). I don't really play new games though, these are ones I heard of were popular.

Mann I still get goosebumps watching the Halo 3 trailer, by far my favorite game ever and I've never found a game yet that replaced the hole it left. And BioShock, damn I used to be literally terrified when confronting a big daddy, I never get the same feels from a game nowadays.
Didn't like most of the ones in the video that much, but it was a great year for many reasons. Been a few slow years now unless your into indie games, but things are starting to look up again now it seems, maybe I'll finaly join the "current gen" soon.

God damn what a naive fool I was back then. Will say this though, the online multiplayer was fucking amazing. Halo 3 was the whole reason I put up with Microsoft's bullshit xbox live gold. There's no telling how much Microsoft made off of my friends and I at the time. We all had 360s, we all paid subscriptions, had headsets, the works. Honestly some of my fondest memories of console multiplayer. ....and I suppose the campaign was alright too. :v:
Fuck, this video reminds me of the lose potential Bioshock Infinite was. BS1 was the near perfect shooter-with-rpg-elements (looter shooter?) in my eyes and is still my favourite single player shooter. I play it once a year I just love it so much. It's kind of lacking shooting mechanics are completely made up for by thoughtful and fun weapon/ammo upgrades, excellent world building, a thrilling story and the sheer atmosphere of the entire thing. I just love how the gameplay, themes and world all click together near perfectly. Now I'm sad remembering we'll probably never get a game like BS1 again - and definitely not in the same universe.
Runescape in its prime in 2005-2007 was the beast. God I miss 2007
I remember some people on this forum trying to convince people COD4 looked better than crysis. good times
People tried really hard to bash that game. "it's a tech demo!" "it has no gameplay!"
People tried really hard to bash that game. "it's a tech demo!" "it has no gameplay!"
To be fair, the gameplay was kinda buggy and the story was shite, but it was a technological marvel and I had a shit ton of fun playing it, especially with the ability to grab objects and throw them around knocking the enemies over like bowling pins.
2007 was almost also the year of the best Total War game to date: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/WQr3ND0.jpg[/thumb]
Last year is overrated. How many games from 2016 will be remembered in a couple of years and hailed as absolutely great games worth playing? Maybe Doom will be it. But other titles are subjective, I feel.
We still talk about (joke about) Spore, so I think No Man's Sky is going to be infamous, but not necessarily as an "absolutely great game worth playing". Stellaris is pretty good if you're into the 4X genre, but I don't think it'll have the same mass appeal as a CoD or Assassins Creed. Whatever year Star Citizen actually comes out will be a monumental year, because it'll either come out and be awesome, and the ripples will be felt throughout the gaming industry for years to come, or it'll be mediocre to outright shit a la Sean Murray Surprise and the violent rapequakes will be felt through crowdfunding for years to come. It's worth noting that the biggest difference between CIG and Hello Games is that Sean Murray deflected and hid from showing promised features/etc., while CIG generates an overwhelming amount of information about their WIPs and plans (like weekly news shows and 15-page team-by-team-in-every-studio monthly reports). They're clearly trying to do what they say they want to do, the argument with most critics is whether or not they're also fucking retarded in doing so (and they have been in the past). On that topic, the SC single-player campaign Squadron 42 is supposed to come out this year, and that's an actual commitment by the devs and not just "euhh, we hope to, maybe, no promises". With the amount of work they've already done, I feel that this actually seems like a realistic goal if they can just focus on the creative/coding debt they've incurred without adding any more tiny perfectionist details to the spec. This'll be the early beacon on how good SC is, but unless it's really fucking amazingly good I don't see it as being elevated to an apex point of the year by itself. It's not a full game in and of itself, but I'm looking forward to the Stormblood expansion for FFXIV. Shit looks like it's going to be great. Tokyo 42 is promising me everything I want and I hope it delivers, because this looks sweet. Also, I'll be waiting for unscripted demos, but Planet Nomads might not be a repeat of NMS? 2017 isn't doomed yet.
1982 is the greatest year in gaming history Nothing since has surpassed Custer's Revenge
1984 was probably the shittiest unless you owned a microcomputer
Let me add a few: Crysis - new IP Lost Planet - new IP Portal - new IP S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow Of Chernobyl - new IP The Witcher - new IP(well, for a game) 2007 may be the best year ever, starting many great franchises, plus the leap in graphics was huge.
STALKER and Crysis were on my list too but didn't make my top 5.
What's the intro song?
OGRE Sound - Droid Rage ;)
2004-2007 feels like the biggest graphical leap in recent history
