They actually announced the game way sooner than they had planned to. There was some other medieval combat sim that came out around that time that some people were mistaking for Mount and Blade 2 so they made that shitty little announcement trailer just to show everyone that Mount And Blade 2 was a thing.

I think that's what they were going for to show how powerful the character editor is.

I'm guessing the actual combat won't be as precise as Chivalry again, they seem to focus on the macro rather than the micro.

If that's the case then i think it would have been better to just say that wasn't M&B2 and wait a few years to properly announced it.
