the creator said he doesn't want to show it off too much to not spoil the 'wonder'. He said it's best if people go into the gaming knowing as little as possible about it and be able to discover things on their own. That's why they haven't shown off a lot of it, and when they do they are secretive about many aspects.

[del]I'm not buying a game where I don't even know the basic game mechanics because they refuse to show it[/del]

they've shown all the upgrades system, terraforming, exploring, mining, trading, the adversary, the wanted system, explained the narrative, explained how planets become more hostile as you advance... I really don't understand all this talk about them not showing anything, like really don't understand what videos you've even been watching
The guy that played it for quite a while from that IGN video the other week said it felt like a 20 dollar game and called it Minecraft in space even though he really enjoyed it. He actually expects it to go on sale for 20 bucks.
I love that Sean kind of ignores the question about narrative in the game. Perhaps something they don't want to talk about yet, or he doesn't want to let everyone know there's not much to do.
It seems like a really cool universe with a cool feel to it, though. It's got history and "relics" and shit on planets. I'm hoping for there to be some mysteries to uncover, or some story elements.
Don't be angry at this game, the dev is very humble and is probably not expecting people to have such huge expectations of it.
It's been blown out of proportion by the media, and the devs can't exactly come out and say "actually the game isn't as impressive as media makes it out to be"
might not float your guys boats but it's pretty much my dream game. Have you guys watched the videos from a while ago showing the development tools and all that? There's a fuck load of variety in plant animal and machines. I'm pretty much certain I'm going to play this game forever until it's no longer possible and I'll be bummed out when that day comes.
I'm going to spend the first week exploring my own planet, learning mechanics and gathering up some stock before I start making my way to the center.
It would be cool if your ship can get destroyed leaving you stranded on some shitty lifeless moon but I guess that won't happen because it would be dumb if you couldn't build. I'm not saying the game will be dumb without a build mechanic, but the fun value would go from infinite to infinite x2.

Randomly generated is almost a buzzword at this point and somehow I doubt you'll spend more than a day on your first planet before there's nothing less to find.
The game looks really cool but theres no way it's going to have infinite replayability.

For me it will.
Discovering different species of things that you get to name may sound like something that would get stale to you, but it does not to me.
There are some abstract as fuck looking creatures in this game, and everything get's more "otherworldly" and hostile as you get to the center.
And yeah "randomly generated is a buzzword" blah blah, it isn't my first rodeo, you can tell the difference between good generation and lazy generation.
This will be Spore 2.0 level of disappointment, guaranteed. And to no fault of the devs mind you, it's the fault of the people expecting it to be a hell of a lot more than what it will be.

All my hype is due to what has already been shown in the past year and a half or so, and the fact the Hello Games has given us no reason to distrust them.

Hah IGN changed the title of the video
Hi everyone,
As you'll notice, we've changed the headline of this video after realizing the "uninterrupted" part of the headline may have been misleading and/or caused any confusion. This was obviously not our intention. The first headline stemmed from the fact that this is the longest continuous look at No Man's Sky after previous demos have consisted entirely of 3-5 minute clips, often edited together as a montage. Our demo is one continuous play session, it just happens to cut back to our reactions from time to time.
We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience, and we hope you enjoy both this video and everything else we've got planned for No Man's Sky throughout July!

Every time he gets a compliment he blushes. It's honestly adorable.

Don't have too high expectations then.
I know what we're getting, and I want the game that we're getting.
I'm the kind of person who likes to use their own imagination when they play a game and thus this is my perfect game.
For all the skeptics: you don't have to like this game. you don't have to want to play it. you don't have to think it's going to be amazing, but stop telling everyone who does that its gonna be a let down, it's not what it says it is, it's just hype, because you know just as much as we do about the game - and even if there was no trading, no fighting, no upgrades, no mining JUST the generated planets i'd still be buying it because it's so far up my street as a game.
Even if this game didn't meet my expectations whatsoever (which aren't crazily high) it'd still be more fun exploring these planets alone to me than most triple A titles that I've played in the last year
This game's world is like a vector image. Purely math driven and scales infinitely.
This game's world is like a vector image. Purely math driven and scales infinitely.
Well, vectors and polygons are similar, but vectors and procedural terrain generation? Eeeehhh, apples and oranges.
This is terrain generated by various different algorithms that have very little to do with vectors. Perlin noise for instance.
Not the second part to the OP, but IGN uploaded this on economy in NMS.

That snowy planet and dragon/fish-like flying thing. Can't wait for this game's release.
I'm getting flashbacks of pre-release Spore videos.
