Damn, I gotta get into D&D some time. Between stories like that and this, it seems like the most awesome time. Shame it often takes months to make that kinda progress.
Never got into roleplaying myself, but apparently you need a very specific mix of players and game master in order to do such an adventure. There's systems that are more focused on storytelling rather than combat, so it's not like it's impossible to do a sweet little adventure with a couple of badass encounters, but if you aren't playing with friends you'll have to look out for people with very different power fantasy definitions, people that'll call out any inconsistencies with the rulebook, world creators making their fetishes canon, etc etc. Sanitizer here for example seemed to like the story until the finale, and after a couple of sessions he'll be invested enough to vividly defend his position - everyone will - and the grand finale could be ruined easily by that heated dissent.
I'm lucky, the RL group I organized has great chemistry so far. So far they have been plundering the stars in the grim darkness of the far future with great success (and Machiavellian deviousness)

Anyone else feel it was surprisingly sexist?
I love how the treasure is actually behind the mirror. [sp]Shown after the credits[/sp]
Anyone else feel it was surprisingly sexist?
Sexist?
Sexist?
Yeah, the only female presence was either damsels to be hoisted on to horses (of which there were many) or villians and monsters. All except those tribal-type ladies and the implied lady adventurer who got her sword or staff stolen, both seen very, very briefly.
Yeah, the only female presence was either damsels to be hoisted on to horses (of which there were many) or villians and monsters. I have a group of friends and we've tried Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and Dungeons and Dragons, but I don't feel like we have the right temperament as a group to actually pull it off and do anything mildly enjoyable.
Sasuke hair on the boy at the end. :/
Sexist?
I think he's referencing the fact that all the women are either evil sirens or symbols of status. I mean I guess I could see how that could be perceived as sexist but it's clear it's not done with any actual malice, not to mention it's just taking a stab at a fantasy trope.
Sexist?
It seemed to objectify women a little. I don't give a shit but I can see where he is coming from.
Even though i would also love it if there was a movie like this, i would think that many people would find it dumb because it ended like that. (friendship, that is the only reward)
Actually, if you watch the entire thing through to the last second you can see that there was more treasure than that. [sp]A perished king sat behind the mirror holding a chest of great power. But clearly our heroes were satisfied by the fact that they have achieved glory and splendour and didn't notice.[/sp]
That was a brilliant watch. I especially like the part where they show all their conquests through their time.
well that is how women were back in medieval-ish times, they're not going to change that to be "politically correct".
Were there lava narwhals and neon lights and octopus ladies and magic too? Wouldn't that rather be a strong figure? I can agree somewhat on the damsels, though. Still, I think it's overreacting.
Please don't turn this into a sexism debate thread. :(
why is sexism, feminism being discussed here? it's a fucking medieval D&D animated video for gods sake get a grip on reality guys
Its better to read stories on the game, rather than play it.
It really depends on the people. There's really a lot of ways to play it - either you do it more like a theatre thing were a lot of fun stuff happens or just running around breaking doors and killing monsters. And everything in between.
Yeah, the only female presence was either damsels to be hoisted on to horses (of which there were many) or villians and monsters. Best thing I've seen all week.
It doesn't have to malicious to be harmful.
It's only harmful if you want it to be. They're not trying to offend anyone, so if you're genuinely offended I suggest you stop reading into it so much.

Are you one of those people that gets mad that there aren't any black hobbits in LOTR?
Ryan Gosling and Matt Damon star in... Brokeback Dragons partners in adventure... AND LOVE
I'm just going to leave another (abiet short) D&D story here:
[sp]Or it just leads to the Tomb of Horrors[/sp]
The men here would top that shit no problem. They killed a fucking god with little effort.
The men here would top that shit no problem. They killed a fucking god with little effort.
Well, at least the didn't try taking on The Lady of Pain.
This thread makes me want to get into D&D, but I just don't know where to start.
