Oh what? Our obsession with Jersey Shore? Twilight? What you listed there are two very brief examples of diversity in our country. By no means does Jersey Shore top Desperate House Wives, Office, American Idol, Lost, or whatever other show is out there. We're by no means obsessed with it like the Japanese are Anime. Trust me.
I used to like VFM&TKOC until the day where I see 36 new posts in a thread, scroll through them, and see your series of gems on how "GENERALIZING IS BAD OH BY THE WAY HERE'S A LIST OF GENERALIZATIONS ON JAPAN, TRUST ME." I honestly can't tell whether you're saying japan isn't diverse, you have a strange tunnel vision on anything falling into the range of creative/odd or foreign, or if you're just thick as a vault door.
Actually, I think you're just experiencing culture shock.
What a waste of good technology, this is like using a 300,000 dollar telescope as a dildo.

That wasn't a very good comparison...
Again, I ask, what other practical use could we have with 3D holograms?

you should probably join the band

you'd think they'd use higher resolution projectors, at least anti-aliasing

No we totally didn't do anything like anime in america.
I'll just leave my childhood here.
the only 3 there that fit "anime" are the bottom 3, Power Puff Girls doesn't count however as it's intentionally imitating, almost mocking the typical children's anime art style. the other two, Yu-Gi-Oh and Poke'Mon, aren't even American.
Japan has awesome holographs. What do they do with them?? THEY USE THEM IN WEABOO CONCERTS!

Spending money on developing a technology that isn't completely useless.

uh wait japanese showing a japanese concert in japan to japanese people - where are the weaboos?

The people who went to Japan to see the concert.

Making a 3D hologram of a bomb to make Japan think we are bombing them. When they find out it was fake we pull in the real ones.
The hologram concept is cool, they could've chosen a better holographic character for it. Miku looks stupid.

Yeah, if only they had more of the Vocaloids.
[editline]18th November 2010[/editline]
Why did they only have to have Miku?
Miku is the most prolific though, heck I don't even know of any others.
I see the opportunity for virtual strippers here.

I seriously dunno what you're talking about bro. And culture shock from what? Japan's repetitive, overdone, and generic usage of anime in all aspects of their life? The only generalization I made about Japan is that they're weird. Which they are. I also don't know what you mean by VFM&TKOC.
I mean, weird in the sense that, if I where to scan my knowledge of the different cultures of the world and elect the weirdest. It'd be Japan hands down. That's not really a bad thing and I'm sure if I was born in Japan I'd think differently. You seem to be putting a harsher overtone on my post than it actually implied. I just hate their anime crap to death and it doesn't help that every person I meet that likes it is some weird socially awkward recluse. Plus, if you stop for a moment and analyst anime for what it was and what it has become you'll notice its currently a perversion of something that was once great.
As for the thing about diversity. I meant when you think about anime in Japan, most people think about the weird child-looking bug eyed people that try ridiculously hard to be cute and adorable. When you think about cartoons in America, you don't think about one thing because there is no stereotype. There is no stereotype because there are so many different kinds. That's what I mean by diversity.

Wasn't PPG released way before the whole anime craze? Couldn't it just have been a coincidence?
This is sad.

Like, RIGHT NOW.
Pro tip: Most American cartoons are outsourced to Asian countries like South Korea, China, and of course Japan to be animated because it's cheaper.

Allow me to point out where you are dumb. I'm going from top to bottom.
1. You made more than one generalization bro.
2. "Hi I'm gonna generalize people because since I'VE only meet weird people so that must mean that their ALL like that!"
3. I honestly don't think you would know this unless you watched the stuff, but you're wrong anyway so it doesn't really matter. Besides it's not like American cartoons are fairing any better if we follow your thinking. Where are all the good cartoons these days? Oh right, there are none because parents and the censors don't think kids can handle stuff like Animainicas anymore.
4. Yes there is, YOU just don't see it.
I misread the title as Holographic pornstar.
I'm probably late as well.

Anyway, Pokemon classifies as anime and look at how much people love it. But noooo, I'm going to hate on something just because it's japanese!
awesome technology pointless use

The music industry can do a lot with this. I don't see a real practical use for military use. A commercial use for flight training maybe and maybe driver training. But I can only see the music industry having able to use this to it's full potential.

Out of curiousity, would you give an anime without those cutesy, bug-eyed characters a chance?

Also, it's a bit unfair to say using holograms for concerts is a pointless use.
I would love to play an RTS on a giant hologram screen.
Why a huge one? Why not a mini RTS built into your coffee table? It would be like chess only 1000x more awesome.
I want a holographic Microsoft Sam concert.
I'm pretty sure this isn't a hologram. A hologram is one of those images that has been laser etched to create depth or something. This looks like just a plain projection.

Yes, a 3D table like surface, with small figures running around on it!
It would be like Warhammer, only fun.

See, now we are getting some place interesting with this software! :D
They really should of put a background to the performance.
