Great song. The best one I've heard since this beauty.
Is this an utterly terrible music general thread??? My eardrums just turned inside out, feels horrible :(
Here, have some good (and equally topical!) shit to get you back on track.
Wait wait, I don't get it. How does emasculating men promote equality. I don't, what? What?
its parodying the original video which did the same to women. come on this isnt that hard a concept to grasp. C- must try harder.
i like this song besides the castration and emasculation part
To me the screaming noise in the background sounds like a castration now
they're still hot, so I don't really see the point..
its parodying the original video which did the same to women. come on this isnt that hard a concept to grasp. C- must try harder.
Were the women implied to be castrated in it ?
Wait wait, I don't get it. How does emasculating men promote equality. I don't, what? What?
because the sort of shit in this video is whats happening to women in pretty much every music video that features them. they pretty much directly say it in the video that their goal is to just switch the roles. the idea is to show dudes who don't see the shit that demeans women how fucking annoying it is to be sexualized and feel like someone elses object the singing isn't good but its a good music video for getting the point across [editline]1st September 2013[/editline] i.e. all of the dudes who go "WOW DUMB FEMINISTS THIS IS RIDICULOUS" are proving their point, just too thick to realize it
How many music videos have you seen ?
plenty?
ahah that thumbnail
How many music videos have you seen ?
i'm sure quote a thousand music videos of indie records that do nothing of the sort, but mainstream chart music constantly objectifies women in music videos
i'm sure quote a thousand music videos of indie records that do nothing of the sort, but mainstream chart music constantly objectifies women in music videos
I don't have a problem with neither half-naked women nor half-naked men in music videos. I guess I'm a misogynist.
I don't have a problem with neither half-naked women nor half-naked men in music videos. I guess I'm a misogynist.
ssswooooosh
This video has been removed because its content violated YouTube's Terms of Service.
Mirror?
Mirror?
Well that's stupid. Youtube removing it, that is.
I don't have a problem with neither half-naked women nor half-naked men in music videos. I guess I'm a misogynist.
ok great thanks for that, but that has sod all to do with number of music videos that objectify women
This is an amazing video, though Grimes and Marina and the Diamonds also have videos like this. YouTube taking it down is not only dumb but hypocritical
Ugh this is a bad parody, the timing and overall feel is just off. If you're going to parody of something at least put some effort into it. I'm guessing some feminists are angry about the original song because it, according to them, supports "rape culture" and/or the usual half to mostly naked women in the video? If it's the latter then what makes this music video different then a lot of mainstream music videos(I'm not saying it's right but what makes it different)? I guess the "controversial" lyrics are "I know you want it" and "I hate these blurred lines" am I correct? Again I don't see what's notably bad about this music video compared to a lot of other mainstream music videos.

I'm not defending it, I'm just wondering what makes it notably bad. There are a lot of music vids that have half nude women being objectified and having sexual undertones and are possibly in poor taste so I don't see what's notably bad in comparison.
I have no problem with this music video except for the sickening ego of that guy. Robin Thicke is a fucking douche don't get me wrong. Women are objectified in the media but I mean he put these girls to work and they got paid and it was on their own accord. It wasn't like these girls were involved in the sex trade or anything like that.
I can't watch this, it's so badly done also you can barely hear the singers (which is good in a way because they're not really that great) I know everyone's tired of the parodies but geez, those people did all the work getting those guys, the set and everything, but can't even do a decent parody compare it to this, LoL themed one for example, great singing and the lyrics aren't bad (ofc it only makes sense if you play the game but still)

Man, I get the issues with the original song and the sentiment behind this video, but it is done rather poorly, in my opinion. I have to try really hard not to cringe when watching it. [editline]2nd September 2013[/editline] Also I'm surprised this hasn't turned into a big shitfest, most threads in this section regarding feminism and stuff tend to go to shit within a page.
ok great thanks for that, but that has sod all to do with number of music videos that objectify women
Why not just be okay with both? We know you are against half-naked female dancers in music videos. How about half-naked male dancers?
its an issue more with the double standard within the industry and the problems around that than the concept itself, as well as an issue of occurrence. just because you care about one thing does not mean you just do not care about the other side of the issue.
Why not just be okay with both? We know you are against half-naked female dancers in music videos. How about half-naked male dancers?
that'd be an issue too if it existed in any large scale but... it doesn't really? most music videos with female leads tend to feature similarly attractive female backing dancers. beyonce dances with women as wildly attractive as beyonce - she doesn't dance with scantly clad male sex-icons. many others feature handsome men in stories about love. there are few of the same ilk as this blurred lines video regardless, you're not looking at the money and the power here. who makes music videos? directors. what are most directors? male. who gives directors money? record companies. what are most record companies headed by? men powerful men with powerful money aren't making music videos that undermine men
it's not any bad or any worse, necessarily (outside of the fact it does explicitly encourage rape culture), but it is extremely popular, and in the public eye. there's no real need for backlash against things no one will see to begin with
Again with this apparently supporting "rape culture". The "blurred lines" are that the women in the original music video he's talking to is already in a relationship, not that the "blurred lines" are if she's saying yes or no to sex. Whenever a popular/mainstream music video comes up featuring half-naked women it's the same process of complaining on tumblr, twitter, etc., rinse and repeat. Rape is definitely a very serious issue I don't deny that but there's no need to search every mainstream music video and song looking for something to be offended about and raise your metaphorical pitchforks and torches.
