I'd rather have good cyberpunk than bad cyberpunk
Honestly, even if movie turns out shit then idgaf
It's not like it's going to steal the glory of the original.
So they ARE including the virtual reality lesbian orgy, right?
I love how the author's explanation for that was "I didn't want to draw a man's ass."
So they ARE including the virtual reality lesbian orgy, right?
Shirow said you shouldn't call it a lesbian orgy because the people in IRL were probably all dudes, maybe even the major.

Why'd they have to cast Scarlett Johansson? She's like the female Keanu Reeves
This is gonna be another one of those movies that is half decent but you're unable to actually enjoy it because the director decided to make it their own adaptation instead of following the formula 1:1 and it'll be a frozen day in hell before purist fanboys let that slide.
It doesn't need to be 1:1 but I would like it to at least keep some of the original spirit. GITS was kinda philosophical, discussing things like what it means to be human or to be conscious, or what technology means for personal, biological, and societal evolution. I hope they keep some of those elements rather than it just being a standard action movie.
I just want the movie to also make viewers think a little. If it can keep some of that spirit it will probably be okay. I'm not saying that GITS is like the deepest, smartest thing in the world but that sort of existential pondering was kinda part of what made it what it is and want it to be retained.

I will not stand for any slander against Keanu Reeves
Why'd they have to cast Scarlett Johansson? She's like the female Keanu Reeves
Why do people care so much?
Why'd they have to cast Scarlett Johansson? She's like the female Keanu Reeves
Hey now.
Keanu Reeves is great at action scenes and commits like hell to his roles.

Motoko is basically acts like an emotionless cardboard cutout so its a perfect role for scarjo

Motoko had a robotic feel to her but you could tell that she would like to be a normal human being.
What I've seen so far feels a little bit off to be honest. Scarjo looks like a normal human and definitely acts like one too. They should've either CG'd her entirely or got someone who can pull this kind of acting off.

It really depends on what version you watched or read. In the first movie she is very broody over her lack of individuality, and in the movie between the 2 seasons of the show, she doesnt seem to care and even operates 2 shells at the same time.
Making a western adaptation of a series like GitS is like walking into a minefield. Theres several different versions and everyone has the one that they like and hate all the others. No matter which version the studio follows or if they make their own story, theyre going to piss most of the fanbase off.
If I had it my way, I would have it just be her backstory and the backstories of section 9 in general and make a sequel from there. The best episodes in the second season were the ones where they elaborated on everyones history.
Just go into the movie with an open mind. If you go into it hating it because of a 90 secons trailer, then the movie will suck for you no matter how good it actually is.

I mean, if you actually know and like the source material, movie, manga, or TV show, then you're already not going to like the movie because in 90 seconds they've screwed up a handful of things.

Tangentially related fun-fact: Keanu Reeves had expressed interest in playing Spike Spiegel in a live-action Cowboy Bebop movie (but now feels he would be too old for the part).

Youre judging a movie based off its trailer when its still early in post production. Go compare the early Guardians of the Galaxy trailers to the ones just before it released. A lot of shit gets changed from now till release.
And regardless of that, youre still judging a 90 minute~~ movie off of a 90 second trailer that doesnt show more than 5 seconds of a given scene. Its just dumb.
