IS that fucking MALCOLM MCDOWELL AS ADMIRAL TOLWYN or what?!
I'm curious to see how the story will progress, while I assume the ISA (or possibly Earth) will come back and result in a victory, I would have no problem with a Helghast victory/stalemate.
That being said, I assume we're going to side with either the scarred General, or Stahl (the white haired guy) near the end or so.
Helghast soldiers have always looked brutal. Only ever played the first but.

And Rico barges into the room and shoots both of them with a machine gun

I hated the voice acting.
is it a bad thing to be a Ps3 player but to hate Killzone?
After KZ2 the series really starts to toy with your head, and after seeing the heart and spirit of the Helghast I'm starting to side with them more. Also, seeing hair on those two guys, especially a thick head of hair and a mustache, seems odd for the Helghast. It'll probably make sense if they're said to be half-human or something.
Helghast ARE humans.
Sometime in the future, humanity has colonized many planets, in search of a better planet than nuclear ravaged Earth. One group of people, The Helghan Corporation, attempts to colonize the outlying world of Helghan. The Helghan Corporation also finds Vekta, an "Eden" planet with plentiful food, unlike Earth. The UCA and the ISA attack Vekta and forcibly conquer it, mainly because of the growing power of the Helghan Corporation. Most of the Helghan employees are arrested but some Helghan "loyalists" escape to the volatile planet Helghan.

If you played liberation you would know that a hybrid born from Human/Helghast parents is able to breath without a mask and grow hair on both Vekta-like worlds and Helghan. But its random and not every hybrid is guaranteed those abilities.

They were Humans! :eng101:
Helghan forced a rapid genetic change to compensate for its atmosphere.
Also, anyone who played the first Killzone, did you get touched by Visari's speech? Cause I know I did, it instantly reminded me of Germany and I'm half German so the pride in my heritage started bubbling up. It's really cool when you can make a personal connection with anything, especially things you like.
I don't know about KZ1, but I often watch the KZ2 intro on GT just because of how awesome that speech is.

I watch it every time I start up KZ2.
I normally hate the whole "space-marine" plot, but Killzone really is a great series, the Helghast look like utter bad-asses, and remind me of the combine from HL2.
I like the whole idea of the helghast having an inner political conflict aswell.
I don't know, I mean reading the plot on Wikipedia it's just "space murrkians lol vs space nazis lol" except this time around the americans are actually the most humongous dickheads in the galaxy and the nazis didn't really do anything wrong.
So you're playing on the bad side.
KZ 3 is on my list of games I really can't wait to be released. The others are Portal 2, LBP2, Uncharted 3 and ME3.

Wikipedia is just summarizing, its like jumping into Half Life 2 without any prior knowledge of Half Life or even hearing about it. You don't get the full bulk and weight behind the story or how it got to that point.
Well you do get everything. Shorter, yes but it doesn't seem to leave anything out.
Well you do get everything. Shorter, yes but it doesn't seem to leave anything out.
It probably leaves out the story line for the series of comics taking place during the First Helghan War :v:
The comics were never finished because the company went belly up before they could be completed.
The only real problem I see with Killzone is the unnecessary cursing. The occasional "Shit!" or "What the fuck!" is alright, but when Rico and Natko substituted breathing for cursing it got annoying as hell.
Man, I loved the Killzone game for the PSP (Liberation I think)
Real shame this isn't coming out for the PC.
Makes me wish I had a PS3. Makes me angry that I don't have one as well so I don't get to enjoy the story.
hopefully the Vectan voice acting isn't horrible this time around

So you're playing on the bad side.
well they're not actually americans but the entire time both sides are humongous pricks.
initially a nation sized group of space merchants or whatever travel through the galaxy trading their goods for some of whichever planet's resources, they wind up sucking the planet dry, and then move onto the next planet. the ISA steps in and says "nah you can't do this shit go to this resourceless planet" which was Helghan (where they become Helghasts) which has harsh living environments and yeah minimal resources, so the Helghast do so, build suits to survive the environment and build an army, then they go against their sentencing and leave Helghan off to some more planets to suck dry, and the ISA steps in and offers an ultimatum. naturally the Helghan dismiss this and then a war breaks out.
that's really watered down, there's a lot of backstory to be read on the official websites, but that's the main points that you come to in the game itself. the original ISA planets were also destroyed by the Helghan, i think, but essentially neither one are good guys, just different degrees of bad guys.
ISA is one letter away from USA the alliteration is obvious.
i think maybe it's supposed to be some sort of ethics conflict. "do we kill them for doing really mean shit even though they have to do it to survive?" but they don't convey that in the game and they should but i don't know how

United States of America
Interplanetary Strategic Alliance
mmmno not really. i mean there's a similarity yes but acronyms also stand for things. it'd be more appropriate to look at the ISA as though it were the Allied Alliance, if you were to consider the Helghasts the Nazis (or Axis Powers i guess)
[editline]7th January 2011[/editline]
basically think of the ISA as space UN
Killzone fucking sucked.

Killzone 3 will suck just as hard, if not harder.
i agree with everything up to KZ3.
KZ3 seems to have potential

Actually, Helghan was a colonization corporation.

Come on don't act dumb. They're not usa ofc (acting dumb, why?) but they're clearly supposed to be the space equivalent
someone want to trade a ps3 for xbox slim?
Come on don't act dumb. They're not usa ofc (acting dumb, why?) but they're clearly supposed to be the space equivalent
i get what you were trying to say, so i'm not sure why you think i'm dumb, but no, they're not the space equivalent of the USA, reread everything i just said because you didn't catch the last two lines.
the ISA is more than one planet, in relevance to Earth and countries, think of it as the UN or NATO which are comprised of more than one nation.
[editline]7th January 2011[/editline]
plus i mean the nazis didn't kill jews to feed on their bodies or souls or whatever to live.
i don't think i addressed it enough but the helghast are sucking planets dry because they need the resources to live. when they get sentenced to helghan, there are no resources, and they all start dying off, so they leave to suck other planets dry just so they can keep living.
Specifics specifics, they are clearly drawing on imagery and themes from WWII, very specifically the USA and Nazi Germany ones. The ISA troops and tanks even look like modern US Army stuff. They're supposed to be the USA within the WWII framework. It's not accurate but it doesn't need to be because it's space americans vs space nazis.
I guess that's fair, too. But don't come and tell me it's some sort of deep story and not just jacking off.
yeah or maybe just war in general? you're trying to simplify it further than necessary solely to convey your own argument and that's ridiculous.
Come on, they even have a WWI and economic buttfucking from the ISA which they recover from with the help of the (supposedly) evil dictator.
How is that not WWII?
