Did you just quote George Lucas?!
[editline]6th November 2013[/editline]
uhh, idk, maybe it's a reference to mw2? It's hard to believe a large company would be this lazy to actually recycle a scene like that.
No large company would ever use that as a way to cut down on costs...

None whatsoever.
Disney seems abundantly different, with its recycled uses, though. Maybe because of the vastly different characters they use at the time... At least to me. Now that I keep replaying the video in the op, the two scenes in the game are like, completely fuckin mirrored.
cod sucks
lmfao are you for real
why would the developers even make call of duty if they didn't like it at least a little bit. the investors and publishers are the problem in this case, what with expected profit and tight deadlines, not the devs.
Because they're paid to do a job.
Also, since when did people start judging CoD on the single player? They're traditionally not that good, the main focus and all of the replayability of them is in the multiplayer.

I get that most of the playerbase focuses on the multiplayer of a Call of Duty game, but let's be fair here; while Singleplayer may almost never do much aside from Black Ops 2's multiple paths, simply giving it a free pass because 'CoD's singleplayer is always short and terrible' is just not acceptable. If we pay $60 or a regional equivalent for a triple-A game in this modern industry, I think a consumer has the right to judge a game based on both their own interests and the game's own faults and positives.
Because they're paid to do a job.
I don't think you understand the mentality behind game developers, regardless of whether they are big-time or small-time.
It is possible for a developer to have personal grievances with a game they are building if they are part of a larger team with a company, and yes they can't do anything about it but continue to work on the project. That does not mean, however, that they dislike gaming or refuse to put any real effort or love into their work.
Developers are gamers, but more than that, they usually work with a desire to create something fun and give it to the masses. No one goes into the game industry simply for the money; it is a hard and unforgiving job.
Your logic applies with other industries or other departments of a studio, but not the design team itself.
Might replay through Call of Duty 2 again soon, Stalingrad campaign is great.
whats with all the call of duty defense force up in this thread
First Call of Duty will always be best Call of Duty. Can't believe it wen't from that to this.
Ehh the expansion is better, especially the multiplayer.
CoD4, WaW, MW2, Black Ops 1 and 2 will always have a place in my heart.
This will always be my favorite Call of Duty

Technically speaking, this was Treyarch's first Call of Duty game
it's weird though when you look back on it and realize how many war movie references there are
like look at the intro to this level (pardon the quality, there's no other video that doesn't have some tool talking over it), that's a direct reference to the river crossing scene from A Bridge Too Far

It's not that weird when you think about it; those movies were considered (relatively) historically accurate, and that was back when the games tried to capture said historical accuracy. With some over-the-top movie bits and one-man-army tendencies, yes, but I guess you could say it was a really accurate WWII movie then. It wouldn't surprise me that they'd use good movies as reference points, out of both a better understanding of how to make the environment and objectives, and out of a tribute.
snip late
Because they're paid to do a job.
no-one develops video games just as 'a job' because it's pretty shit just as 'a job'
no-one develops video games just as 'a job' because it's pretty shit just as 'a job'
I'm sorry what do you want him to say "do a career" or something I don't get this at all
I'm sorry what do you want him to say "do a career" or something I don't get this at all
people don't join gamedev to get 'paid to do a job' because the pay is average for skilled labor and working conditions are pretty bad - they do it because they enjoy video games and making video games
I'm sorry what do you want him to say "do a career" or something I don't get this at all
it also being a hobby is a big thing
almost, if not all devs start doing it "just as a hobby" and it grows.
Hell, same with musicians, and chefs... football players.
If anything I would call being a video game dev as a career as a lifestyle in a small way.
They're good now because they actually are good.
CoD 3 was abysmal imo, WaW was better but it was still lacking. They severely improved with Black Ops 1, and even moreso with Black Ops 2.
I'm convinced the Black Ops series is the best thing to happen to cod since CoD2 (tho CoD4 was p. good, and MW2 wasn't terrible). People give CoD3 highest praises but it's the only call of duty where i've seriously said "fuck this game is bad"

well yeah that's why I'm planning on going into it too but I wouldn't say that calling it a job is inaccurate in any way

I'd really like Treyarch to put out a CoD game that's modern but has loads of references to like modern war media, like 3 Kings or Generation Kill, that'd be cool
well yeah that's why I'm planning on going into it too but I wouldn't say that calling it a job is inaccurate in any way
it's a job but I'd be very hard pressed to say that payment is their primary motivator
case in point
it's a job but I'd be very hard pressed to say that payment is their primary motivator
honestly man I don't expect to get to work on anything I like right off the bat, it's a saturated industry, a lot of people will end up working profit-driven games they don't care for just to pay the bills and gain experience
I've got a feeling that they're referring to something by making a replica cutscene
what am i talking about lol they're not referring shit
I played through the game in one sitting and didn't notice these animations were recycled. The game was enjoyable overall to me, I think they did a decent job.
I am, however, awful at multiplayer.
I'm convinced the Black Ops series is the best thing to happen to cod since CoD2 (tho CoD4 was p. good, and MW2 wasn't terrible). The Black Ops games try not to take themselves as super seriously, and they both introduced a lot of fun elements and environments, along with Black Ops 2 actually trying something new with its story telling (as in you actually get to make choices which genuinely impact the story and stopping to explore a level or paying attention to dialog can actually pay off). Call of Duty 2 though was so much fun, I'd spend all night playing it at parties with friends. And yeah, I couldn't stand Call of Duty 3, I don't see why people give it so much praise unless its because of the vehicles or something. It just felt so half-assed. I played the multiplayer for Call of Duty 3 less than any other game in the entire series.
