Why should anyone resign their rights for the ignorance of their peers? isnt that the main reason america is going to shit
Yes, because I can't walk down the street carrying an M60 without raising a few eyebrows, this country is going to shit. That HAS to be the reason!
I can understand where he's coming from, but i think that walking down a street with any sort of rifle is a bit excessive, i carry my rifles in plain sight to and from the the car and wear my side arm when going to the range to fire but outside that i don't feel the need to be ready to blow some mother fucker away with a rifle or handgun. Plus this guy's just kind of being a dick about it.
I consider my penis a weapon, So if i slung it over my shoulder, Am i allowed to walk down the street with it?
Why should anyone resign their rights for the ignorance of their peers? isnt that the main reason america is going to shit
The guy's lugging an assault rifle down the road, some people call about it, the police respond. How does he react? He freaks the hell out even though the police don't seem interested in giving him any more then a warning. He's doing this purely because he wants the attention, or he's too detached from reality to understand why someone might be concerned that they see a random stranger talking into a camera while carrying an AK-47 down the road.
It's pretty funny how the cops are chill about it but the idiot carrying the AK tries to make them look like assholes.
People should learn the fucking difference between what is legally wrong and morally wrong before they go and call the cops. The Police are for law, not moral disputes.
The police is here to both punish and prevent crimes. People generally try to prevent rather than to punish. The man was open carrying a firearm - as much as you are legally able to do so, if you are openly carrying a rifle that is ready to be operated, you ARE going to look suspicious and make people nervous. Why ? Because people tend to dislike the sight of people who carry guns as in they were in a warzone with indiscernible intentions. So they did the logical, reasonable thing and called a policeman who did nothing more than to make sure the man did not have bad intentions. They decided to potentially prevent a crime rather than wait for one to possibly happen, which is normal and perfectly acceptable. [editline]12th March 2012[/editline] As said Lord Of Ears at the top of this page it's all about knowing how and when to exercise your rights.
This is one of the times where I disagree with an OP on facepunch. Regardless of whether he's trying to seek attention, I'd say the law to openly carry a gun is morally wrong in times of peace, and I'm glad that I don't live in a country where people can do those kind of things. In this case the AK47 can be used for no other purposes than to destroy/kill. If it were a baseball bat you could have argued that you were going to play baseball, but a full blown assault rifle is a designed killing machine. A citizen wearing a fucking AK47 on his back is suspicious to say the least. If you're moving it to your wife's work, then at least put it in some box so it doesn't look like you're playing GTA in real life! In the Netherlands we have laws that I personally prefer above the American ones: You can have a gun, but only if you have a license. A gun must be stored in a secure locker when not used and to move it you'll need to put it in some case. You'll still get to shoot at a range or some organized event if that's your hobby, but there are some stricter rules around it.

The problem is when the right to defend yourself turns into the right of waving a gun around like a compensating cock made of metal and wood for the sake of doing so.

You can have a gun in the Netherlands, and it's fine. But being allowed to make such a threatening appearance is wrong, you should at least have to put it in some case. You can still get to shoot people if you want, but it looks less threatening.
I want to know why people want to go carrying assault rifles around in the public. It's overkill for self defense. The only reason would be to show off how big your gun wang is.

Murrica you so silly. I can only imagine what would happen if the guy walked down a street with that here in the Netherlands. He'd be kissing the pavement before he reached the next block. Over time, by reading discussions here on FP, I've come to at least respect the gun laws in America a bit, because there are a few arguments that make sense. Police departments have to cover larger areas than here in Europe, you're all particularly paranoid of your neighbors, and it's embedded in your culture. However, if open carry of assault rifles is allowed by law, that's just stupid. You guys need some more sensible 'rights'.
However, if open carry of assault rifles is allowed by law, that's just stupid. You guys need some more sensible 'rights'.
It's not much that carrying assault rifles in the open is allowed, it's that it falls under the other laws which doesn't make it strictly forbidden. As this video proved you still can't run around with an assault rifle in your hands without expecting some sort of police attention driven on you.
Open carry is fine and I think it has many legitimate applications. examples: walking to and from a range with your gun(s) carrying a gun in a wilderness area walking to and from a hunting area with your gun(s) being unable to CC but feel the need to have a weapon so you OC instead for protection reasons; like going through a bad neighbourhood at night or something using it as a way of protest (kind of what this guy is doing but he's still a retard) [editline]12th March 2012[/editline] Being able to conceal carry is definitely superior but I like that OC is an available option

In the Netherlands, you might have a good police force that can respond quickly, but in the United States there are areas where it takes 10-40 minutes for police to arrive. The police sure as hell can't protect you, so you have to protect yourself.
I consider myself a gunnut, but you have to be some kind of retard to act bewildered when people look at you funny because you're carrying a rifle around town. [editline]12th March 2012[/editline]
open carry should only be permitted if you can come up with a valid reason to be doing it "safety" and "because it's my right" don't count as valid reasons
Give me one solid reason why personal safety isn't a valid reason to carry a firearm
He is being a complete douchebag, imma paint da pigs as fags!!! wlak down the street with an AK even though I don't need to then complain when people are nervous. Shut up
This basically says, "If you don't agree with me, don't watch this". Great way to become sheltered in your own opinion, by surrounding yourself with people who only view things in the same ignorant manner.
Give me one solid reason why personal safety isn't a valid reason to carry a firearm
closed carry works just as well
I'm tired of people calling this an assault rifle. This is NOT an assault rifle. This is a semi-automatic rifle. Inform yourselves.
"they're calling the cops because they're ignorant" ha, hypocrite.
closed carry works just as well
Open carry is more effective because speople knowing you have a gun makes you less of a target.
if you have a gun, you shouldn't be worried about being a target in the first place
What do you mean? A gun doesn't make you invulnerable. Someone can still get the jump on you and hurt you. However, someone is less inclined to even try to attack you if they know you have a gun on you.
not necessarily
I like his point of "why should my rights be infringed because people are worried" but toting around an AK to make the point is fucking stupid.
