Another useless church being demolished to build something useful on its place
We should save old churches
Turn them into something different and safe the architecture
Like stores, bars, even homes
Why do that with just the old ones?
Why not do it with all of them?
wow, can we stop with these threads?
the title and OP are incredibly offensive.
Well religion is offensive to me and many others as well.

People still use churches, why tear them all down?
they do this on european countries, they turn churches into hotels.
There is an old church near where I live that was converted into a Jmart. Thing is now the place is covered in brooms and buckets and other things Jmart sells.
I love the old architecture, I like the looks of a church much better than a cold block building.

Here we go again.
Disgusting symbols of a religion that destroys minds and lives. Good riddance.

I got 99 posts but that church aint got one
What is with all these posts that generalize all religion. Not to mention the ones just bashing them.

What is with all these posts that generalize all atheists. Not to mention the ones just bashing them.
Everybody needs to start getting a bit rational, here.
The OP is offensive and obviously was starting to either try something, or was a dumb ass atheist who thought that a piece of culture and something being destroyed was funny or enjoyable or something.
The people that are generalizing atheists (more than just Sausage), are just as bad.
I rated this person:
I don't understand Facepunch's hate for religion. Seriously guys, getting that low and still calling everyone else ignorant and close-minded?
dumb, because generalizing all of Facepunch isn't getting anywhere either. If they would look at the OP and how many dumb ratings they got, we would see Facepunch is not some giant ass hivemind. So can we stop thinking that? We're not Reddit's atheist board.
I don't like the majority of religion, as it's used to pass legislation and laws, in what should be a secular country with a separation of church and state. It's also made atheists a hated minority. But the thing is, even though I wish everybody would stop using religion as a means to ignore science, stop progress, and pass offensive and limiting laws, posting a video of a church being demolished and going "LOL AWESOME" is not only just as fucking stupid, but not helping atheists as a whole. All it does is further punch in that stereotype that atheists are a bunch of idiots who just like to make fun of religion and be rebellious and whatnot. We should be trying to steer clear of that, not towards it.
That being said, can we just ignore this thread or something? Let it sink to the back pages?
People still use churches, why tear them all down?
Just when did i say tear it down?
I said churches should simply be reconstructed into buildings beneficial to the society.
And any artifacts or other historically important objects should be placed into museums.
Is it wrong that the first thing I thought of was this?
While people still use them? Yeah that's a great idea.
[editline]1st July 2012[/editline]
Not to mention the huge shitstorm it will cause. All this because you are offended by religion.
A rehabilitation center i was regularly visiting that literally got thousands of people back on their feet was closed down and is going to be replaced with a water park.
If something that helps people can be shut down and replaced with something useless, why shouldn't churches be replaced with something that benefits the society?
Kinda pointless just to knock it down unless the land was being used in conjunction with the surrounding land to create a larger building. Don't care for religion, if you want to worship an entity that there is no proof of then be my guest assuming you're not going to stand in the way of progress which religion is mostly blamed for.
they do this on european countries, they turn churches into hotels.
One of the churches in my city is now a noodle bar :v:
This thread is like, WAITING for a religious person to fall into the trap and rate dumbs.
If you convert it to some pub or hotel you disrespect a place of worship. Places of worship are respected by the majority. And we're in a democracy, and it's the majority that rules.
Over here churches that arent used anymore get turned into homes, its sad that old churches get demolished for some ugly block building that will take its place, a lot of churches look great..
What else to do with a church that noone goes to anymore?
Watching a building get demolished is always cool, whatever it is.
But yeah, I think it's actually better to see a church re-purposed than destroyed. Let them serve as reminders of religion for future generations. Even if we don't like religion, it's a part of human history and culture that you can never simply gloss-over.
If everyone turned atheist tomorrow, I wouldn't dream of seeing the Vatican turned into a series of shopping malls and water parks. Some of the best architecture and artwork in history was religiously inspired or commissioned.
So yeah, if I saw places like those getting turned into museums, I think it would be a stronger statement with a more worthwhile outcome.
Am I the only one who thinks churches shouldn't be demolished?
Sure old or not, you could reuse it, turn it into a bar/restaurant/hotel/shop or something. Problem is where can you get the money to restore?

No you're not the only fucking one. Read the rest of the thread, and that would have been pretty damn obvious by now.
Churches aren't worthless, what about homeless who want some shelter?
When I took a trip to New York a couple of years ago, we ate at a pizzeria that used to be a church. It was one of the best looking restaurants I have ever visited.

Re-purpose it into a shelter for homeless?
