I am too damn stoked.
Having played tons of CoC pen and paper sessions, I really do hope I get the same feeling playing this game as I get the tabletop sessions.
I know Frogwares was thinking of a CoC themed game but didn't they drop it over this?
Or was that just Devil's Daughter?
It'll be nice to get an actual Lovecraftian game.
With a few notable exceptions, a lot of games like to bill themselves as taking inspiration from or basing themselves on the Lovecraftian themes and mythos, but just end up with some really uninspired tentacle monsters and horror theming. We need some good games to stop the term from becoming meaningless.
I kind of wish people would stop trying to make ~~LOVECRAFTIAN~~ games. Lovecraft's work does not translate well into video game format, it never has and it never will.
The mythos itself is interesting in its own right but games have done it a massive disservice by being about as subtle as a smoke detector taped to a loudspeaker.
You should play Bloodborne.
You should play Bloodborne.
i went to take a look at some of the enemies in that and, i may be very squeamish in general, but some of them were so ugly, horrifying and disgusting i couldn't really even look at them
that's lovecraftian monster design done right
the action shooty parts from the other call of Cthulhu game were the worst parts, everything before getting a gun was really tense and great but it fell apart after that.
if anything, it should be a walking sim/puzzle hybrid
walking around and doing puzzles doesn't really cut it either tbh, you have to do something REALLY weird to properly incorporate Lovecraftian themes into the actual gameplay. like who would have thought a fuckin From Software game would have a sanity meter? and that it would be like the only sanity meter that's not the dumbest thing in the universe from both a story and gameplay point of view?
I really wish more games had something like Eternal Darkness sanity system, where casting spells comes at a cost and low sanity just makes all kinds of mumbo jumbo come about.
I mean it's not a true CoC game without insanity, crippling phobias and mental illnesses.
i hope this doesn't have the same gameplay style as amnesia, i love amnesia but dang it got repetitive

Who knew that a revamped Souls formula would work amazingly well with [sp]Victorian survival/cosmic horror[/sp]. It did, and I love the game for it.

Well it says stealth rpg investigation and concept art showed a lot of gun-toting so pray for a classic survival horror.
