Feminism: A repetitive broken ideological record - That Guy T
why do i need to say who's at fault? if you see your car burning, are you going to stop and wonder who did it or are you going to try to extinguish the fire? you're not gonna solve anything by pointing fingers
You claimed that women are held back, so you have to give examples how they are held back, and by whom. You can't solve a problem if you don't know what the problem is. You have to analyze the reason why the outcome is what it is.
And in the case of your analogy, you can fuck things up if you don't know what the cause for the fire is. Is the engine of the car on fire? Or is it only the passengers seat? You better know because water on an oil fire is bad.
It is pretty much a given that men think more logically whereas women think more emotionally - which is better for decision-making?
Dude, do you honestly believe this is true? The idea that women have to think with emotions and men use logic..... are you trolling?

You were the one who claimed women aren't held back. If you're telling me I HAVE to give examples, then why don't you do the same and tell me how they aren't?

That is like asking for evidence that god doesn't exist. You are claiming something so you have to show the evidence for it.
That is like asking for evidence that god doesn't exist. You are claiming something so you have to show the evidence for it.
I don't think you understand what a claim is
By saying that women aren't actually held back in politics, you're also claiming something. If sources and evidence are so important to you, go ahead and show me some

What kind of evidence do you want? All the women that are in politics right now? Female leaders?
Because if women are held back, how come they got a job in the government holding power?
[editline]27th July 2014[/editline]
one example of women being held back in politics that i never hear is that women are never taken seriously when running for an important position
at least here in america, i heard a shitton of people going "wow obamas black, thats bad enough but at least hes not a woman"
And still Obama got the large majority two times? Just because a few bad apples say or do something stupid, doesn't mean that the whole system is like that.

What the fuck kind of logic is this
Being held back doesn't mean you're being prevented from doing something entirely, just that you're not doing as much as you could be doing

So women will stop being held back when they become president?
So women will stop being held back when they become president?
will bad movies stop existing when a single good one is made
will bad movies stop existing when a single good one is made
Movies are not comparable to a position in the government which holds the most power
Movies are not comparable to a position in the government which holds the most power
Oh wow did you really just miss that analogy that hard?
Women being able to acquire a position of power does not mean they are not disadvantaged any more. It's a sign of progress in the right direction, it's a great help to the Feminist movement, but it is not indicative of a solution being found.
When the idea of a woman being in power stops scaring people, confusing others, or being a joke to the rest, the problem will have a solution in sight. The disadvantages women face are not "no you can't have this job, you've got boobs" as much any more like "well there's this guy here with a penis and all that, I'll take him" even if both candidates happen to be equally qualified for the role. Women still aren't taken seriously in a lot of jobs that have historically been seen as masculine jobs, or jobs where they have power because they aren't seen as masculine. This is a problem.

Doesn't the majority decide who gets to be president? So it can't be that many that say something like that. I personally have never seen anyone openly reducing a female politician just to her genitals and dismissing her based on that.
Now to another point. There are tons of scholarships and programs just for women to go into STEM fields. And still there is such a low number of them in said fields. It is clear that all the help isn't working if they are simply not interested in it. And maybe the majority of women are not interested in it?
In all the countries where there are higher female percentages in the government, they just introduced a quota to get more women into it. And this is the wrong way. For example, Barbara Hendricks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Hendricks_%28politician%29) is a female german politician who functions as the Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. Common sense would say that in order to be successful in this position you have to have experience from working in these fields or have studied subjects which deals with these topics. But what she studied instead was history and social sciences. How does a person like that get into such a position if she got no experience in it? Why would a patriarchal system give such a person power to decide if germany gets rid of nuclear power or not? Why would a patriarchal system allow a female quote in its government if it was patriarchal?

A different question, if female politicians could be doing much more, how come they don't openly address all the problems of being held back from an even higher governmental position?
why do i need to say who's at fault? if you see your car burning, are you going to stop and wonder who did it or are you going to try to extinguish the fire? you're not gonna solve anything by pointing fingers
That argument is intellectually dishonest. You can't compare really complicated social matters with... a burning car. You just point your finger at it and say "hey, that's a problem! Because I say so. And it should be fixed", with not even so much as an expressed desire to understand the possible premises and reasons for the situation to be like that.
That's not how you fix anything. "I don't give a shit, I want more women in power right now" - good luck with that attitude, that's how societies get fucked up. I'm sure academia that has been working to find out the "why" and "how" of it for the past decades would appreciate a stance like that.

Except that's not my attitude. I never said you shouldn't look at the reasons as to why something is like it is, just that you shouldn't look for people to blame it on. You don't solve racism by pointing your finger at white people and saying "it was them"
before you guys start arguing semantics and getting caught up in dumb misinterpretations of analogies and because i'm in a good mood, i'm going to straight up tell you who is holding women back. ready to have your mind blown? it's you. WHOA.
you, and me, and all your friends and family. everyone. yes, even your mom (this means society as a whole, just in case you want to misinterpret this too). the force that holds women back and prevents them for reaching their full potential is cultural and pervasive, there's no sole responsible individual or group. it's the product of centuries of misogynistic behaviour being validated and perpetuated again and again, through cultural traditions, religion, the media, whatever.
refusing to see this is goofy as hell and it would be like me asking who is responsible for anti-semitism and refusing to accept it exists unless you point me to the cause. again, dumb as hell.
fuck analogies, this stuff is simple, entry level feminism and if you don't get it then obviously you just don't want to.
[editline]ok[/editline]
and like the guy above me said, all of this is 100% irrelevant because we can still see there's obviously a problem, we need to act and make things better, not waste time looking for excuses to not recognize it's existence.

Then give an example on how society is holding women back in politics? Are there some commercials that are always telling women that they don't have to stuff to get into politics? I ask this question for the tenth time, and nobody gives an answer.
You can't solve a problem if you don't know what the cause is.

i'm not entirely convinced that you even read the post you're replying to
[editline]27th July 2014[/editline]
ps: the cause is society
we're not magically exempt from terrible societal pressures just because feminism exists. even the most hardcore of feminists suffer from the negative effects of society because we've been conditioned from birth to think this way.
Just curious, what are people rating dumb for?
The actual response by That Guy T to the girls video or the girls video itself?
That Guy T is always on point. Do the burger look good??

It's not women being overtly told they can't do x, that would be ridiculous. It's a general attitude held by a lot of people that women are bad leaders, they're too soft, blah blah. Remember when people would parrot on that women shouldn't be in politics because their 'judgement is impaired' by PMS once a month?

The Daily Show did a great segment on this a few months ago, everybody should watch it

Hey, some politicians are black. Obviously that means racism is over.
Right?

You do get that there isn't actual a group of people sitting around blocking women from politics or such right? When people talk about "societal pressures" or "patriarchy" they're not referring to a specific group or organisation, they mean society in general.
The reason we don't see more women in politics isn't because there's a literal group of men blocking them, but because society as a whole sees them as less qualified than their male counterparts.

You know, this is a good point.
You realise that no matter what any of you argue about, no one will change their mind, and this debate will just go on forever?
He said the pay gap and rape culture don't exist.
tbh "rape culture" is a stupid fucking term, because the first thing I think of when people say "rape culture" is rapists setting up their own houses and trust funds and having art galleries and talking about rape casually in cafés.
I know that's not what it means, but that's what it sounds like and that's why I think anyone who uses the term is stupid.

That's such an extremely idiotic and belittling point of view.
