Considering Squirtle's biting it with a beak at the neck and the Charmander is screaming in sheer pain as the flame is shown fading, even if briefly, there's a very good reason Red seemed to be concerned about the matter. I wasn't referring to water, I meant the general health of the pokemon overall.

If that just symbolized how weak he was as opposed to him [I]actually dying[/I] when his tail got doused, that kinda sucks.

It might've been something the games or the anime tried to retcon later on to make things more child-friendly. Or, hell, the anime might've just had a very stupid scene that the creators or the fans have tried to justify ever since then.

Why do people keep saying this? It's not [I]that[/I] bad. Even the severed Arbok goes to the Pokemon Center and comes out fine, not to mention that it's only partially "hardcore" during the RBY and GSC arcs, everything after that is generally tame.

The Anime never respected the orginal source material.
This is why so many people love the fact the OVA exists, since it is true to the source material.
