His point is the Clover we know is a baby. That means there's a mother somewhere, and that leaves potential for the future.
I don't know if this takes place at the same time as Cloverfield or not, so anything is really possible
I could have sworn that was a misquote. I'm pretty sure the guy quoted (IIRC it wasn't Abrams himself) said the monster in Cloverfield was like a lost baby looking for it's mother, not that it actually was one. I'll need to find the source for that, though.
Man if there's no monster I'm gonna be sad
I'll watch it anyway just for the Cloverfield connection, even if it is pretty light. Main premise is interesting enough.
Same universe movies and games are the best, especially when they aren't rehashes of the originals. I'll see this for sure.
It basically said "No spoilers, but if you're expecting a Cloverfield follow-up, don't." and that he liked the movie.
He also said that it was still titled Valencia when he saw it and that he didn't notice any direct connections to Cloverfield, and there is a rumor that the movie was retooled to be a Cloverfield sidequel.
Here's what i'm getting from the trailer.. They're stuck in a bunker because a monster is out there, and if they leave they more than likely will get killed. In this bunker is a crazy guy, and this is all centred around them escaping the monster in the bunker. Clover field will get shown once or hardly at all.
I enjoyed them both tbh. I definitely enjoyed Cloverfield more though. The whole viral marketing campaign leading up to it was one of most fun times I've had on the Internet.
I didn't mind Super 8 until it tried to be ET at the end.
I don't know how people can shit on Cloverfield then with a straight face say Super 8 was good.
Super 8 was alright.
I suppose its more a point of "found footage" movies not appealing to some people. Its like viral videos that are obviously commercially shot. Its like people who state their ambition is to make a "cult" movie.
You can't really go into making movies to make a cult movie.
I have yet to enjoy any form of media that incorporates "found footage".
Seemingly a contained character-driven story AKA what a lot of big directors ought to be doing these days.
The original Cloverfield trailer only showed scenes from the opening party scene, hopefully its a similar tactic here.
Because it hasn't been posted here:
That's because this was originally wasn't connected at all to Cloverfield when it was originally made as Valencia. This film was originally made for Paramounts Insurge division(a subsidiary for films made for under 5 million dollars like The Devil Inside), and when Paramount closed it down, this movie(shot and completed) was thrown out to the wind and orphaned. Paramount bought it back up and had Dan Casey do some re-writes so that it would connect to the Cloverfield universe and they went back and did reshoots and add-ons in March 2015 in New Orleans. If i'm not mistaken this film was in post-production for almost a year as well.
This is a cash grab by Paramount so that they could make some quick bucks off of this film(which probably wouldn't have made a lot of money in its original non-Cloverfield incarnation). They are trying to spin this into something its really not. The budget is only 5 million dollars and they are releasing it in IMAX to make a little extra dough.
That and the poster makes me believe that the Cloverfield part will just be a footnote and we won't see much outside at all. Still has potential though.
Still. Even if this film is barely Cloverfield connected, it gives me hope that there will be an honest-to-god Cloverfield film sometime. It's a foot in the door, I hope. Especially with how awesome Godzilla was.
Heh, imagine that. Cloverfield shown in its first movie was just a baby. What if fully-grown Clover tussled with Godzilla? Christ, that'd be amazing. But dreams are dreams where that's regarded.

Clover was 240-300 ft, while Godzilla in the 2014 movie was 350 ft. I don't think Godzilla wants to meet that thing's maker.

The monster in Godzilla kinda resembled the Clover monster.
The hives in the ocean that was in the tie-in comic is probably one of the raddest things I've ever seen that will never be touched upon in a universe
I honestly loved Cloverfield so fucking much. All the viral advertising that surrounded it got me so hyped and although it wasn't the best movie ever it really made me feel as though there could be a giant monster in our ocean that would wreck shit like that.

It's been a trend for a few years for "large forearmed, slanted torso quadrupeds" in American monster cinema

He'll be fine, after all Biollante was bigger.

Nuclear weapons won't work on Clover, so Godzilla gets pissed about the explosion and comes out to kick it's ass.

I tried searching google images for "cloverfield hives" and I'm not sure what I expected

This is fairly accurate
I was underwhelmed with the movie and to be honest, I don't know how they're gonna tie this in if the information post above is true.
There's just not something...scary? about massive monsters that can't be killed because 'reasons'. I think the ultimate monster is the Thing, because it can be killed, but its just as good at hiding as it is as good at killing.
