my nigga. I played the shit out of that and Hard Truck 2 on my 650MHz PIII with a matrox G400. Ran smoove HT2 doesn't work on GHz+ processors last I tried, everything is warpspeed :(
You might be able to get it to work in Win95/98 mode in DOSBox, which has a speed limiter for old games that do that.
It's too bad they're starting with some of the most barren landscapes of the USA, but they might be doing that because it's so radically different than the environments of Europe. I hope they make it to the east coast because I often drive through the Appalachians and it's always so beautiful: [img_thumb]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/27/Sideling_Hill_road_cut_for_Interstate_68_in_Maryland.jpg[/img_thumb] Driving through mountains where you can still see the dynamite tubes that split them open.

And by that, I mean rolling fields forever.
I read they plan on doing parts of Canada and Mexico at some point. I wonder if you can drive to Area 51 :v: Maybe some sort of high end paying job.
I don't understand how someone can genuinely enjoy this type of game. It's really cool that they've made an entire faux California, but I don't get it.
People play this for the same reason people play train and flight simulators: it appeals to them. I mean the community for Trainz and TS are (not surprisingly) filled with railfans who find the experience of driving a digital train for long periods of time fun and I'm sure applies for flight and truck simulators. Sometime ago in Trainz: A New Era I spent maybe like 30 minutes filling a consist of hopper cars with limestone and then spent what was probably another 30 minutes traveling to an iron mill to drop it all off and then went all back to the limestone mine to repeat the process and believe it or not, I enjoyed every second of it. Long story short, people will sometimes find enjoyment in things that others may think are boring.
I'm not going to lie, the company management actually sounds really interesting to me. I've never been interested in the Truck simulator games, because I thought all they were was driving. But after watching the review posted on the last page, I'm actually kind of interested. That being said, should I just jump in with ATS, or get ETS2 so that I have more mods available to extend gameplay? For the record, I live on the West Coast, so ATS is definitely closer to home for me - but at the same token, ETS will be entirely exotic to me. And driving on the left side of the road will be one hell of a challenge. :v:

It has a lot more content (only 2 trucks in ATS currently) and ATS doesn't appear to have any graphical improvements over it.
I read they plan on doing parts of Canada and Mexico at some point. I wonder if you can drive to Area 51 :v: Maybe some sort of high end paying job.
I hope they do BC. Driving from the BC coast east to the beginning of the Prairies puts you through a lot of varied terrain complete with a desert in the middle. Depending on how far north they go, they could do BC and Alaska and connect up the coast, into the subarctic.
Unless you try to play it like me and speed everywhere and try to make your way through tiny gaps, as well as attempting to drift it... :v:
Thats how I played it, going 95 down the freeway and watching for speed cameras. My company wasnt called "Flaming Wheel Delivery" for nothing In a somewhat related note: I learned that you can actually roll your truck
What I dislike about ETS2 is that it doesn't support multiple pivot points so we can't have these things [editline]1st February 2016[/editline] Semi's are so boring to reverse

The current engine really isn't that much of an improvement over the old 18 Wheels of Steel games of the early 2000s.
A Twitch streamer called Squirrel did an interview with SCS Software CEO, Pavel Sebor. Worth checking out.
Should've made a Russian Truck Simulator. Then there would be extra gameplay elements such as roads made entirely out of mud, and highway bandits
2001/2002 got you covered, [sp]it does have bandits and dirt roads, also bribing cops[/sp]. I used to play the shit out of this when it came out.
Can't be bothered to find the ETS2 thread i may in a second but ATS is now available to buy
You guys are forgetting about the grand father of truckin' games
They're only launching the game with two trucks in it!!
The download was only 1GB. I wasn't expecting something that small...
The download was only 1GB. I wasn't expecting something that small...
That's about the size of ETS2. When you think about it, there really isn't much to bloat up the file size. They have some assets that they can reuse, a map, sound effects, and some truck models. Not much to it besides the engine itself, which is pretty lean as is.
Think we can drive to Area 51?
Actually if you drive through Nevada on American Truck you can see random lights in the sky. At least at night you can. During the day I think I saw a prototype airplane fly over.
My boyfriend and I traveled from San Fransisco to Phoenix, it was literally mind numbing. At a certain point I was just laughing at and making fun of the desert because I was so bored.
Devil's Advocate here. I've made the trip from coast-to-coast back and forth three times, twice through Arizona. It's only as boring as you make it and tbh it's something I'd recommend as part of your bucket list. I can't recall a cooler experience than traveling in the middle of nowhere. I'm being serious here too.
