Praise the ayy. I really hope he gets back into it, and doesn't burn out again, as it's neither fun to play or watch if he's not enjoying it.
I'm gonna guess he might've gotten some help with some mods and has done some customization to bring some quality of life changes to lw1. As from what I understand, he prefers xcom EW LW gameplay over XCOM2/LW2 gameplay, myself included tbh. But, there are so many nice little quality of life additions to XCOM2 that make it hard to go back.
