That's a dubious point if I ever saw one. One is ridiculous but very slightly within the realms of possibility. The other is almost entirely unrealistic outside of African maps.
Even in the game world's logic, one would have to travel through Italy which was bogged down by the end of the war in a massive blockade. Most of the German colonies were far south of the fighting in the North.
Also if we're going to allow that, were are my Islander Germans all the way from the Pacific?

Battlefield 1 takes place in the real world but it makes some concessions to make room for the sillier gameplay that's staple to the battlefield series. You can't expect it to be some hyper-realistic shooter because that isn't the goal of the game but it's fair to complain about historical inaccuracy in some of the detail. It might be some minor bullshit that doesn't matter that much but it's valid nonetheless.
However, if it's true that character customization is a thing then i'd rather have that than some tiny bit of historical accuracy of course, it's way more fun.
