My parents and sister are religious. Parents aren't extremely religious while my sister is one of those dumb "facebook girls" so you can't say anything bad about religion without her getting mad and pissy.

Don't feel bad. Religion is a choice, not a path. If you chose not to go to college or whatever, then sure that would be a path, but with religion? Ignoring the afterlife beliefs, it all ends out the same way anyway
His mum is a dumb bitch but he's also dumb for thinking that this could end well in any way. It sucks, but you should only come out as gay/atheist/whatever when you are financially independent and you are not reliant on your parents/guardians.

Obviously any sane person would wonder how it's possible that God exists, but he does exist the same way as Super-man or Bat-man exists. They are intangible, and they will be around for longer than you live.

Yeah sure we can all agree that God exists as a concept that came from the imaginations of people thousands of years ago when they had no other way of explaining where we come from.
The same way we can all agree that the Flying Spaghetti Monster exists.

That's more anti-theism. Being against the idea of theistic belief to the point of attacking others (verbally or physically). Where atheism is just a lack of belief in a god/ deity.

It depends on what you mean by "religious" and what you mean by "the US".
My mum called me a heathen when I told her I was an atheist.
My family is completely atheist, and in italian swearing is actually blasphemy. (ex. God Pig! and stuff like that). Most of my family members swear when laughing. Combine the two and you have a family repeatedly insulting jesus, mary and god while watching Laurel and Hardy.
It might seem dumb, but for anyone that undestands italian humor/language it's a different story

And where we actually came from is relatively easily explainable, but explaining it through God or the Flying Spaghetti Monster doesn't make any sense; it doesn't explain anything.
