Really hated that about SP in modern military shooters, died countless times pushing the enemy so far back, the game just slays me. And the title reminded me of this.
Oh wow how did you find this? I got a letter a couple of days ago from Paramount issuing a copyright complaint and Youtube pulled the video off my channel but you've somehow pulled it back out of the nether
Crysis 2 didn't work because it ditched the original formula, not because it was a sequel.
That's exactly what I'm saying. It wasn't Crysis anymore because they wanted to appeal to the modern warfare crowd, which is why it proved the opposite of what you were saying. The sheer fact that it was a sequel had nothing to do with it.
I'm not entirely sure why they essentially took a step back with Crysis 2, but the original still holds up as an innovative game and if the second maintained that, I think it could have been very successful. A free roam FPS with multiple ways to tackle a mission was a huge deal, and I'd imagine some games draw some inspiration from that, like Far Cry 3 coming out.
you're preaching to the choir here, I'd love if they made another crysis like the first one.
Though I will give you that the timing doesn't entirely work as it relates to MMS, but let's just say certain mechanics have survived through the MMS onslaught and call it even.
They really only kept the minimum amount that they could and still feel ok with putting crysis on the box, but ok.
I just don't believe that military shooters are drowning out creative, enjoyable titles. I really don't see that being the case. Fun FPS games still exist. Fuck, the new Painkiller just came out. Then you have -Crysis -Deus Ex: HR -Red Orchestra 2 -Serious Sam 3 BFE -Bulletstorm -Nuclear Dawn -Singularity I'm not trying to fight, I'm just saying that I don't think we need to give up hope on creativity in the genre yet. [editline]2nd November 2012[/editline] Well maybe not Nuclear Dawn but you get the idea.
Singularity was such an unappreciated game.
Singularity was such an unappreciated game.
I loved Singularity. I found out about it at a demo of Nvidia's 3D thingy on an Alienware rig at a local Micro Center.
i hope episode 3 has not to be like this.
CoD is to video-games what Transformers is to film- easily enjoyable shlock for the mainstream audience. Both rake in big sums, so of course they keep making them. But one who is into video-games beyond CoD will find it to be from "mindless fun" to downright terribly boring. Just like one who is above averagely interested in film won't update his/her FB-status with "omg! the expandables was awesoome", but rather find it to be from "popcorn action" to awful. Video-games are a bigger part of entertainment then they ever have been. They're mainstream (gosh I feel like a hipster typing that phrase). On-par with movies! And that is just something we have to accept. Why even care about CoD and the money it's pulling in? It's like getting all fuzzed up over how Paranormal Activity is earning millions. It's a bit sad, sure, how the masses can seem so blind but that's just how it is. Both film and games got great stuff being made all the time so ye, why bother. Drive, Moonrise Kingdom, Inglourious Basterds. DE: Human Revolution, Sleeping Dogs, Red Dead Redemption.

Sleeping Dogs was originally canceled because it wasn't MMS, and this isn't a rare occurrence. On the other hand, it seems to be getting easier for devs to work around publishers, especially since the advent of kickstarter.

It sucks how publishers are trying to appeal so much to the mainstream audience, by tacking on the all too familiar multiplayer and such, and forgets the original audience. Probably just a reaction to CoD's sales that will slowly creep back to normal again, or change things around in the industry (like Kickstarter is doing)

Red Dead Redemption is up there as one of my favorite games ever. I haven't gotten around to trying Sleeping Dogs but most of the people I know who have played it said it's pretty good with a few flaws. But I still really enjoy the CoD series. I have since the very first game. They are just fun pick up and play deathmatchy shooters that are easy enough that anyone can play, and low-spec enough that any computer can run them. They don't innovate, they just deliver a solid shooting experience.
Yeah this game is broken as hell; EDIT: This of course doesn't count the several days of troubleshooting and configuring trying to get it to stop crashing every time I get into a game with other people. EDIT2: Oh I've also just finished watching the OP video. At the end he mentions why even bother with Single Player. Irony for me is that I HAD to launch it through the Single Player client to actually be able to get into the multiplayer, the Battlelog browser crashed me every time.
I was excepting Duty Calls...
You know this is the reason i like Arma series. At least it is realistic and gives a good feeling of danger. And i don't even need to mention how good mod support and community it has. But games like these have just been stalling in the same point for several years with little changes gameplay wise.
Look at any of the dumb LP'rs on youtube, and you would understand why they chose to make the game like it is. Every time a game gives them a meter movement away from the linear train they're riding, they manage to get lost for 30 fucking minutes. The game just boils down to satisfying the lowest common denominator.

Few years back, games would force you to use your brain, now it's just "hold E to play next interactive cutscene". [editline]3rd November 2012[/editline] This shit just breeds more people like that.
