Discord's ToS is enough to keep me from ever touching it:
You know they cannot safely (from a legal standpoint) provide their service without being granted these rights, right? The act of broadcasting your voice over the interwebs can technically be seen, in a legal context, as performing pretty much any of the above listed verbs. They're basically saying 'you can't sue us for sending your voice as per the normal use of our services, and also if we need to at any point we can get a third party to manage the data without having to force you to click another T&C every time that happens'. Without such a carefully worded T&C some asshole could easily rock up with a lawyer and say 'I didn't give you the right to PROCESS my content, and it's clear that my sound files were compressed during transit through your servers, now I am suing you'. Even though the court would probably such a suit into nonexistence, it's still a liability and a hassle if the company has to deal with that kind of nonsense.
Not even I have gone that far and people still call me paranoid on a daily basis. It's stupid to call people paranoid nowadays, because we know a lot more than we did 4 years ago.
Exactly. I'm not against shit like this because "oh no they're going to store and sell my shitty jokes", but because I'm against the principle itself. Slippery slope arguments and all, that's literally what this is. People become apathetic to data collection and privacy intrusions because the transition's slow and comfortable. Corporations and governments then try the ice further, collecting information that's more and more infringing, if people then continue to go "lol who cares the service is neat" or "you got something to hide boi???" then tadaa, you've got the dystopic cyberpunk future that "the old world" warned us about. "Just don't use it then??", yeah that's like exactly what this video is trying to say, but some people got super upset over the fact that someone dared to criticize their favorite VOIP client, over a matter that they generally otherwise care about as a cherry on top. "The developers are cool" apparently not quite, but I'm sure they want to lull you into thinking that. And yes I realize that I'm being a massive fucking hypocrite by saying all of this while still using Google, Windows and Android. It's the same for me, I hate what they're doing, but they're what works the best for me. I guess one option sort of ""solving"" it would involve switching to Ryzen and Linux, and then running Windows virtually, only using it for very specific tasks such as gaming.

As it stands today there's no way to do general computing while being completely private using modern hardware, and that's terrible.
"The company doesn't have a very fucking trustworthy record" Cites class action lawsuit that was DISMISSED. Doesn't even mention that it was dismissed. Them being sued therefore really doesn't mean jack shit. Nice try bootleg cr1tikal
if I killed millions of jews would "but hitler did it" be a good excuse?
I wasn't defending their policies. Just pointing out that if people are worried about their privacy, there are so many other things to keep an eye on - as some people have pointed out. My point wasn't "everyone else does it so what's the big deal." I meant to say something like "this guy didn't even acknowledge all the other privacy invading platforms out there." This should be a much a wider and more discussed issue, not limited to a single program.
While the points about privacy in the video are valid, it can't be helped that for a lot of people there isn't any 'good' alternative for what Discord does to be honest. So we might just stick to Discord for now, until it gets to a point where it is too shit to bother or some new alternatives come out. [editline]29th July 2017[/editline] Yeah it is fishy, but it does what we are looking for, and all the alternatives are either too bothersome or obscure, so we'll just take what we've got.

Personally I've dealt with many applications/websites that do fishy practices in terms of privacy, but none have negatively affected me or anyone else that I know that's used them. I've not used Discord myself but it seems to be well liked among the community and the community seems to get on well with the developers, so for that reason I don't think people care too much
Teamspeak is like an old grandpa who still has dial up internet. Teamspeak hadn't had a good UI refresh since it was conceived and discord provides a very attractive and simple UI platform for gamers to quickly get into. [editline]28th July 2017[/editline] Yeah I stopped mid video. If you go or use the internet and dont think your info is being used, sold, looked at or distributed by companies you're wrong. Discord is no different. Good day
Who thinks they're important enough to believe that their hot spicy dank maymays are going to be lurked through by Discord? Do people think that there are people working at that company going "haha look at this, look at this guy right here, look at all this stuff he submits, isn't that funny? we should follow everything this person does and waste our entire work day doing that only." How many people use Discord? If it's more than 1,000 that's a tough thing to accomplish. That specific thing in the TOS stating they can do whatever they want sounds more to me like they are saying "if you upload child porn to our service we're calling the FBI". I get the whole "b-but muh privacy! m-muh freedoms!" thing but seriously, how important are you, a 20's something loser spending their time arguing about privacy on an anonymous internet forum? Do you think you are important enough or interesting enough to think a corporate entity is going to lurk through your life based on what you submit to their service? If you think you are you have a more serious problem, it's called narcissism. (User was banned for this post ("Flaming" - icemaz))
you're right, holy shit, you just invalidated facebooks entire business model. holy fuck dude ur a genius, theyre all just lsoers why even sell their data??
There's a difference between collecting analytics and selling data. Collecting analytics is specifically for the purpose of targeted advertising. I should just use Bing for everything, shouldn't I? After all, Google is collecting my data! They're selling my life to the highest bidder! Oh god, those bastards! I can't believe that they keep giving me advertisments for things I search for, it is such a travesty! MY PRIVACY!!!!!! What, to you, defines "data"? Is it pictures, videos, correspondences, etc? I work on phones and computers for a living. Do you think after I fix someone's phone I go perusing through their pictures? Think I sell their pictures to other people? What is the incentive in doing that? What would I gain by selling some random fucking joe blow's pictures to someone? Who the fuck would be interested in buying them? What would be the point? Where would I find a market for it? Take off your tin foil hat.
