I just caught the preview for the new map, too, I must have missed it. That was some pretty stellar work, I hope they gain the resources to do some kind of movie (and hire actual decent writers and not be mediocre like Warcraft was).
thank god for an overwatch video with no lines
for real, that was great visual storytelling
When the hell is Blizzard just going to open a film studio?
Oh man, that was by far my favorite one so far. Probably because there was no cringey dialogue that sounds like it belongs in a rated E action movie.
The woodpecker was brilliant and the flashback was great. I really hope they amp up their dialogue in the future cinematics because it's what brings them down so much.
Blizzard should either keep all dialogue out of these or hire new writers. This was way better than the other shorts.

Lucio vs Symmetra video: "ARROGANT BRAZILIAN, THAT WAS NOT THE ONLY TELEPORTER"
That was Pixar-grade animation.
Oh my god. It was so beautiful.
Am I the only one reminded of the Iron Giant by this
I'm not alone in getting major iron giant feelings from the short either. right?
Nope.
That was a cute little short. Bastion is adorable. I wish I could get into Overwatch.
I wanted more of this. Was adorable.
[sp]So, he walks out of the forest of Eichenwald (Germany), he reaches the plains, and sees the skyline of Mumbani (Africa)?[/sp]

That wasn't Numbani.

That's Stuttgart.
infinitely better with no dialogue. i know that its only like that because its starring a mute robot and an animal but holy shit, the atrocious blizzard writing pulls every single other cinematic down

The cinematography and overall storytelling even without dialogue was better. It's like leagues above the rest.
Holy dicks that was fantastic.
I didn't like it? There was nothing new we didn't know about Bastion. He was a war relic, but now he woke up with his combat directives glitching out. Am I missing something out or the previous short animations actually expanded upon the lore?
And graphics-wise it's not exactly fantastic either, nothing more than "well-made". But it's probably because I'm used to CGI trying to be realistic, and Overwatch's style is pretty cartoony.
I'm so gonna get shit for this, seeing as the majority absolutely loved it.

That and I was getting Wall-E vibes too. Come to think of it, Bastion is just Wall-E with a gun lol
Fighting an army of turret mode bastions would be pretty shitty

Aside from Winston's, the other shorts really weren't lore heavy. Now we know that Bastion was deactivated before ever fighting, it's possible he never even murdered anyone himself which builds on that innocence vibe. Also learned a little bit about Omnics or at least Bastion units, in that they can download the experiences from other units and replay them, and we saw the best footage yet of the Omnic Wars.
Your opinion is wrong about the graphics though.
I firmly maintain tha Blizzard makes, and honestly has always made, the best cinematics and animations in the gaming industry. Even just from a graphical standpoint, they're always beautiful and well done imo.
What should the dialogue be like to be good? Just curious.

Probably less predictable. It basically consisted of well-known tropes so people could predict what the characters were going to talk about (I did personally, it was pretty funny)

The only one that was really bad was the tracer one tbh, her VA is obnoxious imo

Nah Blur devastates them. But as far as being a company that makes nice cinematics without outsourcing them, yeah Blizzard is the best.

A lot of their dialogue feels painfully cliche and bland. The characters all feel really one note and lack any distinct personality. But most of all, I think it's because there's no contrasts in their personalities. An important thing to remember when writing is that a character's strengths are much less interesting than their flaws.
Like, take Tracer. She's peppy and jovial. Not really much else to her. She hasn't got anything wrong with her. Nothing seems to relate to her backstory of being a fighter pilot and science experiment. Not to mention the fact that she's a killer for hire and spends most of her day gunning people down. Why is she so happy and wholesome?
In TF2 you've got the Scout, who's also peppy, but he's also brash, arrogant, narcissistic, sarcastic and incredibly irritating to the other characters.
Overwatch's characters are basically Saturday morning cartoon characters, with little more depth than G.I. Joe or Cobra Commander. The heroes are wholesome, tough, friendly, and just, and the villains are edgy, sultry, mysterious or crazy.
In TF2 characters are self-absorbed, paranoid, hypocritical, incompetent, obsessive, cruel, and overall shitty people, which gives you a whole lot more to work with when writing dialogue for them.

MvM as a weekly brawl confirmed.

I always found her catchphrase funny because it makes acsolutely no sense.
Cavalry? Bitch you ain't on a horse.
It's just a catchphrase for catchphrase sake. Probably it was added by the marketing team to make her more of the face of the franchise.
I never disliked Overwatch dialogue .-.
Sure they don't have many flaws but they're supposed to be more like cartoon superheroes. I never expected to see Tracer's space PTSD or get a long speech on Soldier 76's drinking problem or whatever.
