Half the cast of Overwatch are mercenaries or vigilantes. It's not far fetched that they would work together with Overwatch or another organization, and the fact that the game is not canon and is just the scrapped remnants of an MMO almost a decade long in the making, ya know.
Blizz also said that the new Eichenwald map was meant to be in the game, but they decided to finish Route 66 first. So you can infer that it would have been Bastion and Rein's map in the same way Route 66 is Mcree and 76's, Hanamura is Genji and Hanzo's, ect.
I didn't know this, damn. Activision was the worst thing to happen to Blizzard since Chris Metzen developed an orc fetish.
I thought Route 66 was more Reaper's than 76's, since he has lines for it talking about how he recruited McCree to Blackwatch there years ago.

True, but I also recall a 76 line saying something like "Deadlock, we should have wiped them off the map years ago."

the line is "Reyes should've cleaned up the Deadlock Gang a long time ago."
Am I the only one reminded of the Iron Giant by this
I felt like there was a strong inspiration from Robocop in his design.
Mainly cause of the exact servo sounds they used for his movements in the movies and the way he moved, turning his head first and then the rest of his body.
You got it mostly wrong.
Up to this point we only know about two Blackwatch members, McCree and Reyes (Reaper). Blackwatch wasn't some kind of evil organization, it was just Overwatch's Covert Ops, but they did some shady shit (torture, kidnappings, murders, etc etc). Genji joined Overwatch because Angela Ziegler (Mercy) found him half dead after his fight with Hanzo and made him a robot.
Overwatch doesn't even exist anymore, and most of the old guard (like 76) would rather it never be recomposed.
Lucio is not affiliated to Overwatch (although, did Overwatch still exist, he would surely be) but he's just a Freedom Fighter against the Vishkar Corporation, of which Symmetra is an employee. Symmetra is probably the grayest character in the game, her being not really evil, just dictatorial (sees freedom as chaos) and apathetic.
Junkrat and Roadhog are part of the Junkers, mad-max style raiders that formed in the Australian Wasteland. D.va and Zarya are soldiers, respectively for the South Korean and the Russian governments. Hanzo works alone.
Reaper and Widowmaker are part of Talon, a terroristic organization. Reaper is probably just a mercenary while Widowmaker was the wife of an overwatch operative, but she was brainwashed to become an assassin by Talon itself.
Soldier 76 works alone for whatever he thinks justice is, just like McCree, Ana and Reinhardt.
Tracer and Winston want to reform Overwatch.
Overwatch was reformed and recalled. McCree and Reinhardt were both recalled. Whether they accept it is unknown, but Overwatch is once again an organization and it makes sense for them to be fighting for it again. Especially since McCree fully believes in its mission again. He left Blackwatch because of the infighting.
Also Blackwatch is still around, they never disbanded. While Overwatch was forcefully removed, Blackwatch remained, and is now hunting down former Overwatch members while being led by Reaper. Those soldiers were see are Blackwatch, as is Reaper and Blackwidow. The comic with McCree says as much.
Hanzo works alone but he was invited to help Overwatch by Genji at the end of their short. We don't know exactly what he did after.
Talon is basically just Blackwatch. They're called a different organization but they use all of the same tactics and they have the same members. Calling them Blackwatch really isn't that incorrect.

Blackwatch used ethically questionable tactics to achieve the same goals as Overwatch. Talon is a terrorist group that simply exploits the post-omnic-crisis situation. And if Blackwatch and Talon were the same, why the hell is McCree coming back into the fight? Isn't the very reason he left Blackwatch because they were fighting with the rest of Overwatch? Why would them doing the same thing again attract him back into the group? They used some of the same Blackwatch tactics, but they are absolutely not the same organization.
Also Widow was never part of Blackwatch, she was abducted by Talon while Overwatch was still in operation.
Widowmaker was married to Gérard Lacroix, an Overwatch agent spearheading operations against the Talon terrorist organization.
Remember that during Overwatch's original run, Ana got shot by Widow. So widow, and by extension Talon, existed before Overwatch disbanded. Overwatch, which Blackwatch was part of, was fighting Talon before Overwatch disbanded.
Also Reaper is absolutely a merc, he's not loyal to Talon, they're just paying him.
The Reaper is an extremely volatile mercenary, a ruthless and remorseless killer responsible for terrorist attacks across the world. He has fought in many armed conflicts in the last decades, showing no loyalty to any cause or organization.
I said McCree is with Overwatch. He's anti-Talon/Blackwatch, and comments that they seem to be the same in the comic. They even recognize him and vice-versa, they are made up of essentially the same members.

Talon existed at the same time as Blackwatch, as completely seperate organizations, they can't be the same organization.Talon had an actual organization before overwatch went under. People who were not part of Blackwatch ran Talon literally for decades, Widow was never part of blackwatch, McCree was blackwatch but never joined Talon, and reaper isn't actually a member of Talon. They aren't the same thing at all. The only people who could have carried over from Blackwatch to Talon are generic grunts or characters we've never met.
[editline]20th August 2016[/editline]
Their leaders and their objectives are completely different, how can you possible say they're the same organization???
It doesn't even feel PG-13 to me. Overwatch's characters feel like they're written for children.
Overwatch can't decide if it wants to be for children or adults. The characters are simplistic and bland, but then you have them saying DAMNIT all the time in-game and DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE
