We didn't say "no sound" it's just that the explosions and fucking wind noises are silly The movie could do with some dialog between the characters (and houston maybe?) and contrast the cold, silent vaccum of low earth orbit with some ground-level shots of Houston or the astronauts' families or something like that. If they could make that work, I think it would be really interesting.
If you are in your space suit and something explodes near you, chucking massive amounts of gasses everywhere and you happen to pass through some of that rushing gas coming out, you're gonna hear it. Maybe not exactly like its portrayed, but it'll be audible regardless.
Think of the sound as something we're hearing from within the suits of the astronauts, while exagerated they will hear -something- from all the commotion. If the sound where simulated from the camera then yes we probably would hear nothing at all.
I like how this trailer came out the same day the ISS crew perform a repair spacewalk
Sound doesn't add anything to the movie. It doesn't feel like space when there are tons of noises you'd only expect to hear on Earth. I got this very strong feeling of watching these people in front of a green screen because it didn't sound like space at all. It completely destroys every last bit of the atmosphere of being set in space.
The audience needs to feel familiar with the movie, relatable. No one is going to be able to fully feel or understand the situation, nor understand the full scale or the weight of the events without all of the senses being exposed. Most people today have short attention spans and get bored if there isn't something to stimulate them at intervals. If they have to sacrifice some realism, which honestly really doesn't matter, in order to pull people into the story and make them invested and interested, then so be it. If you want realism in a space film, there's always 2001, which very few people today could stand to watch.
;40595636']The audience needs to feel familiar with the movie, relatable. It's cold, empty, silent and should make you feel uneasy and alone, especially when you're about to drift away from your space station. But maybe this is just another mindless action movie, but I feel like there are enough unrealistic mindless action movies set in space already where space adds nothing but a "cool" background. If this really isn't about space they could have made the same exact movie on a offshore oil rig. 2001 didn't violently rape physics and I can't think of any more atmospheric science fiction movie. The scenes where you can hear nothing but Dave's breathing make you really feel like you are there and not in some crowded studio.
Jeez guys it's just a teaser trailer.
Jeez guys it's just a teaser trailer.
That just made me think, it would be incredible if they made a film like that. Barely any sound apart from the comms chatter, no music... Just the serene horror of people dying a slow and horrible death in the most unfamiliar environment we've ever visited.
I can't stand the simple "ahhh, ooohhh, AHH" every 5 seconds. Otherwise the movies seems suspenseful as fuck and I'm planning on seeing it!
what the fuck is this shit?
To be honest, if they can't get simple shit like that right I don't have much hope for the movie. I'm kind of surprised how everyone is praising the trailer because it seems like it will be an awful movie to me.
You people are literally the worst.
This looks absolutely amazing.
From a physics standpoint, they would just keep orbiting the Earth until they die. They have the same speed as the spaceship when it blew up, so they would just keep orbiting the Earth. The only way gravity would pull them back would be if they pushed against each other, sending one into the atmosphere to burn up and for the other to be sent off into space or to continue orbiting the Earth forever. Or they hit a satellite. 10/10 horror movie Edit: oh shit she isn't even attached to anyone at the end
The ISS orbits at an altitude of like 300km. It is not close to geo orbit. The orbit also has a decay of 2km/month. They would die before they reentered yes, but they would eventually reenter and burn up. It'd be like 8 years before they officially enter the atmosphere.
The special effects look very nice, I like the premise too!
For once we have CGI here that doesn't look like CGI. Probably because even in real life, anything in space looks sort of unreal [editline]11th May 2013[/editline]
Sound in space is just... ugh It would be way better without it, IMO.
I'm sure there's going to be a scene or two where there is no sound, But you do know, that you would hear an explosion in space, right? It's not going to be a boom or anything like that, but the wave is going to cause whatever it hits to vibrate, so in an Orbiter or ISS, if something big enough went off, You'd hear and feel it, or the effects of it, and not 'it' itself

reminded me of this Best futurama episode.
You people are literally the worst.
Why? If you can't get space right you have no business making a movie ABOUT FUCKING SPACE.
They made this into a movie?

Saw this trailer in a packed theater. Everyone freaking tensed up, and after it was over their was this massive sense of relief throughout the room. Can't wait to see it.
We need more space movies set in... reality. And more space thrillers. Event Horizon and Moon need some modern brothers and sisters. Edit: By reality I mean kind of modern civilization, not something in a thousand years.
Moon was so great. And the soundtrack was phenomal Clint Mansell is an awesome composer
Why? If you can't get space right you have no business making a movie ABOUT FUCKING SPACE.
It's not a fucking documentary. They aren't trying to present any facts or persuade you in any way, they are telling a story.
It's not like there is much for them to do. They somehow get into the ISS' emergency pod and parachute back to earth.
Being stranded in space while not being attached to anything would drive me insane in a few moments.
Just saw this teaser at a theater and it really ruined my vibe going into The Great Gatsby.
Don't worry guys, I've seen this happen before. A FedEx Space shuttle will crash and all the packages will come floating by, and they'll get stuff like shoes and clothes. Next thing you know, they'll find a volleyball, and it'll be their best friend.
The woman will drift alone in space for a few hours then get picked up by alien ship that's passing by. She then proceeds to have kick ass adventures exploring the universe meeting many different species.
