Quake III arena or just Quake instead of Quake 2.
Unreal Tournament 2K4 or the first instead of UT2003.
I can't really disagree with TF2 at #1, I've had alot of fun with that game.
My thoughts exactly. Replace Starcraft with Company of Heroes along with that and you've got a pretty difficult list to criticize.
don't see the hate for ut2k3. 2k4 has the nice vehicle maps and more features, but 2k3 had better gameplay and movement.
League of Legends? Really?
Wasn't UT 2k3 a general failure and threatened to kill UT?
UT2k4 made most forget that
But UT3 Tried really really hard to kill the series
Also glad to see it wasn't full of CoD,MoH, ect.
i wasnt expecting farmville to show up after #1
leading it into tf2 was just perfect though
Replace League of Legends with Age of Empires and I'm happy.
So many hours spent battling vikings...
Surprised CoD didn't make the list.
The first game was well known for it's setpiece-heavy, epic campaign. The second was known for it's fast-paced WW2 themed arcade shooting, and MW set the standard by which following shooters would be compared by implementing a huge breadth of customization and progression.
Drop Minecraft out and replace it with CoD and you would have a pretty good list. Minecraft is too new and too esoteric to be considered for a top 10 of multiplayer games.
Wow, I just realized that every game on that list, I play fervently (Bar Starcraft 1 and WoW)
Wow, I just realized that every game on that list, I play fervently (Bar Starcraft 1 and WoW)
Yeah this is actually one of the best lists I could see made for best multiplayer games.
How does it make any sense to put Quake 2 for best multiplayer instead of Quakeworld or Quake 3, and UT2003 instead of UT99 or UT2004?
TF2 doesn't deserve number one in my opinion. I found that it gets old fairly quick.
If you think TF2 gets old fairly quick I have trouble imagining how you can play any FPS at all.
TF2 is constantly adding new weapons, balance changes, maps, and gamemodes, and then there's all the custom maps as well.
TF2 doesn't deserve number one in my opinion. I found that it gets old fairly quick.
Uh that doesn't make sense. The game is basically ALWAYS changing.
The idea that Starcraft is an epitome of RTS gaming, is just saddening.
uh starcraft 2 was probably one of the greatest RTS's i've ever played
Generic as fuck list.
Generic as fuck list.
But true.
Generic as fuck list.
I don't know what you were expecting then, of course they put the most popular (hence well known, hence "generic") PC multiplayer games on the list.
The only one I think should have possibly been mentioned was Diablo 2.
The idea that Starcraft is an epitome of RTS gaming, is just saddening.
Starcraft is good, but certainly not the best RTS out there.
Generic as fuck list.
What the fuck does that even mean.
TF2 first?
Hahahhahahaha what a joke
TF2 first?
Hahahhahahaha what a joke
I beg to differ. It had quite the popcultural impact on the internet
Ut2k3/4 still number one for me.
Could have been worse, but it was bias with the complete lack of RPG's, Massive RTS's, Simulation, and anything that isn't "mainstream".
The list is better titled, "Top Ten Most Popular PC Multiplayer Games."
Starcraft is good, but certainly not the best RTS out there.
Best balanced though.
Except that it's basically that. Since they are most popular, they are the most successful. They are also the most widely played, thus making them ripe for the list.
uh starcraft 2 was probably one of the greatest RTS's i've ever played
Starcraft series is well designed, but considering that the second game is little more than rebalanced rehash (or rather, an expansion in Three-Dee), it's just sad to see that genre has not one-upped the old game concepts present in it. And it's not like new concepts were never presented - Supreme Commander trumps the fuck out of every RTS game's scale out there. Dawn of War series introduced acceptable unit squad concept, as well as implementation of a freaking TABLETOP WARGAME into RTS environment on an impressive scale. And what about Company of Heroes' forgoing of resource gathering, instead focusing on territory control? How about Age of Mythology, which introduces that made AoE RPS balance even more convenient and adoptable. C&C introduced a dynamic environment of sorts (mostly in regards to Tiberian Sun).
And there are more examples. RTS gaming is still stuck with the idea that Starcraft is the best thing there is, even after more than a decade. That's why Starcraft 2 seems like an expansion - they took the great idea they had, and polished it even more. It is a good game, but it's an old concept. Because RTS gaming is stagnant as fuck, as everything new is forgotten, as the next game fails to outsell Starcraft. Really, it's up to Blizzard to take the step to get away from Starcraft and into the next stage, since no one else is able to.
End rant, I guess.
;33780155']I disagree with Minecraft. I love it but the multiplayer isn't that great.
I have to ask, but what do people find in CS 1.6 that is supposedly better then CSS?
Because it's full of elitists. There is no real, logical reason that I've come across.

Well to be perfectly honest, I personally don't like TF2's style of gameplay. The very rock-paper-scissory type gameplay gets old to me really quick.

They could've not put quake and unreal in the same list for example.
ALso, they mentioned Worms Armageddon. List is instantly legit.
i would probably put ut, quake or cs on no1, i don't think tf2 is that good compared to those
[editline]19th December 2011[/editline]
hell, tf2 wouldnt be around if it wasnt for quake

But Longboats and no Fireboats :suicide:
