Holy crap that's cool. It looks like you could touch it... Imagine trying to walk on those paths though.
Actually, our eyes do have a rather strong DoF effect it's just that we can't usually see it because the whole reason its there is because we aren't focusing on it and when we try looking at it it goes away. But you can sort of notice it. The thing is in games they can't determine what exactly are your eyes looking at so they just DoF the whole thing or base it on where your crosshair is.

It sounds lame but making a 3D game (as in uses 3D glasses) would eliminate the need for artificial DoF

Because there's already DoF when we look at a computer. For example: Read these instructions first and then do them 1) scroll so that my avatar is at the bottom-left corner of your screen 2) stare at it 3) can you read the text in the post above?

That stone road sure looks painful to walk on
The stones / roofs / stone path / most things that stick out of something in this video are due to tesselation, its normally just a flat texture. Tesselation in this demo will cut your fps in half, hd5850 60fps everywhere without tesselation, in the square with the dragon with tesselation around 30
That stone road sure looks painful to walk on
I can walk on it easily. Running? No.
I thought it was shit up until 2.12 when I saw the glint off that metal roof and my penis wept joy.
I can walk on it easily. Running? No.
No you can't walk on a virtual stone.
No you can't walk on a virtual stone.
No, I mean if it was real
I bet you can't run this on 30 fps minimal if you have less than 8 cores and 4 GFX cards :v: [editline]12:43PM[/editline] DoF was terrible, indeed.
It's running at 30-80 FPS on my PC at full settings (except AA) [editline]03:22PM[/editline]
Okay it looks pretty fucking sexy but i still feel like it could of been achieved with DX10.
Tessellation is a DX11 feature, you can't do that with DX10.
Beautiful.
Good to see some decent engines.I am looking forward to some new gameplay in games.
I bet you can't run this on 30 fps minimal if you have less than 8 cores and 4 GFX cards :v:
Not so, it's a very optimised engine. I downloaded the demo and ran about in it maxed (excluding AA.) with an average of 70fps in the built-up village area and up to 140 elsewhere. - Geforce GTX 295 (Just in single GPU mode) - Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @ 2.40ghz - 4gb ram (3gb usable, 2 gb if you take away the 1gb required to run the OS >.>)
Reminded me of Black & White 2 at first.
Textures are supposed to be 2D. Models will go out of business!

p coo

I fapped bricks.
It's nice, but I think most of the good stuff is performance wise, and they didn't even put a fps counter on there.
Tessalation doesn't seem very practical on complicated geometry, the output is very unoptimized. Wouldn't it be easier just to model it by hand and have less of a performance loss?
My ankles would snap like twigs within a week of walking on these pavements.
While it looks good, I fail to see what's so special about it...
lul, hl2z eninge is mutch beter!1 xD
lol someone dumb spammed the whole page honestly I think this "tessellation" thing is useless. At least, useless if it takes up as much resources as I think it does.
Okay. How is this any better than DX9?
