Why do people even bother trying to compare PCs to consoles? The most advanced PC is obviously going to beat the leading console just because of the way PCs are customized and consoles are pretty static devices have huge time gaps between the different systems.
to see how the console fairs against the top quality PC out there so far
0:49 the aliasing on that door in the ps4 version oh my god
are the specs of the PC and PS4 the same/similar, or does the PC have better hardware because #1 - if the specs are the same, the only issue is with software compatibility and optimization, which will improve a lot by the time devs get used to the PS4 OS. and #2 - if the PC is better, it's probably loads more expensive than the PS4 anyway. Keep in mind this is a $600 console, it's meant to be a balance between cost and good hardware mixed in with some usability, not a top-of-the-line graphics monster. I'm impressed they have the hardware they have in the PS4 without the cost going through the roof.
Oh my that is beautiful, regardless of which one's better. 10 years ago that would take a month to render.
Agh the PS4 frame drops they hurt!
the lack of light-bouncing or whatever the technical term for it is the thing that really stands out to me. realistic light-bouncing is such a subtle thing that will really change visuals hugely in terms of realism. the fact the ps4 footage didn't have this makes all the millions of extra particle effects and processing power needed to deal with these higher polycounts and texture resolutions mean nothing to me
Light bouncing is called GI (global illumination) or raytracing. And yes I agree, I'd love to have it implemented however possible.
why would this surprise anybody? did some people think a ps4 was going to be better than any existing computer?

The visual quality of future games will be determined by how they handle lighting.
I expected it to look better on PS4 seeing as it'll have recent hardware. If they have the same hardware, then it should look better on the console since it'll be built specifically for that set, but oh well. PC will remain superior when it comes to games and graphics. The real issue is how long will these consoles be around, and how many years will we be sticking with lackluster graphics and ports because of it

Anyone else think those PhysX-like particles look utterly out of place and someone went "hmm, they look kind of cool, just gunna copy and paste this in". Looks really amateur and crap

It doesn't look anything like fire embers, god fucking damn it.
Ah man, so my current PC kicks PS4's ass in terms of power. Though, check out the top-rated comment. It gives some hope. Though I'm not saying that graphics are everything, but it would be nice if consoles managed to even be compared to PCs for at least a couple of years. I don't want to see fugly. terribly optimized console-ports for the next 5-10 years.

The difference between what many PC gamers spends on their rigs, what the developers could consistently aim for and the amount of money the average mainstream console buyers would be willing to fork out for a game machine will perpetuate this issue. I don't think it's possible to produce a console up to par with PC gaming standards cheap enough to enable it to go mainstream and level out the performance standards.
Of course lets all not forget that this is the very start of what the PS4 can do. This is what the 360 looked like on launch [t]http://www.2-game.be/games/Project%20Gotham%20Racing%203%201.jpg[/t] And this is it right now [t]http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120417131721/gearsofwar/images/6/6d/TheNewLambentDrone.jpg[/t][t]http://www.fable3.nl/images/screenshots/Smoker_720.jpg[/t]

Maybe when they optimize for the console's hardware they can judge how bad it is I for one think games made with Unreal Engine are mostly unoptimized as fuck on PC, and that's because they can't optimize on each hardware's weak point on the market. In a console that has barely been shown It's gonna take a while to figure yourself what are PS4's weak points, and why this demo could be bastardizing them.
A shame the graphics of that demo weren't really anything super amazing.
Lol guys that graphics card costs $500 are you kidding me right now I paid $350 for mine and I think even that's pushing it

Yeah ok it's really simple when you are comparing a console to a pc and one component costs the same as the entire console of course it's going to run smoother that doesn't mean ps4 looks bad at all. The framerate is a little choppy at parts but it's also most likely going to be at a competitive price

Pretty much it's never going to happen that a console will beat a PC, since the console will be in development for a while to finalize the perfect hardware set, and by that time all those separate parts are likely already on the market in people's machines.
To start with, I'm more for pc then consoles, but on the graphic scale, when people say ps4 doesnt look much different than ps3, that's because we are getting so close to "Perfectly Real" looking games, its hard to do large leaps like the psx to ps2.
