Looks like a 3d version of Starbound
I thought people were hyped for this?
I stopped being excited when I found out you can't play it co-op with your friends.
It would be cool the closer you get to the center of the galaxy. The more intense or insane the designs of the planets would be.
That's how it is
excuse 18 quintessential color swaps limitless vacuity endless disappointment journey around aimlessly "Man, I really gotta take a dump some time soon.", Mar Gurgl, 2016 your boredom awaits ... I am actually very curious how it will turn out. I do think the trailer would have been better without the text, though. :-p
I'm looking forward to it. That's all.
They really didn't pick the best shots to include in this trailer. Also, it might just be me, but the graphics seem more low quality and murky than the previous videos. The ground texture looks really cheap and low res, but that's probably nitpicking. Could turn out to be good, but it just seems like an overpriced walking simulator with a procedural gimmick slapped onto it. The concept really intrigues me, but I just don't see it yet.

Seeing as how they are actively trying to prevent people from playing together. Why not just make it SP and sync the names of creatures that are discovered and the name of the player that discovered it? Seems like they waned to make an MMO but chickened out.
They seem to be very irritated by the fact that people want co-op in their game.
Q. Will your friends take priority? No. Just to be really clear, the reason that I'm saying this is we just want to be really clear with people that it is not an MMO. All of those questions are leading toward that. There are loads of MMOs out there. People can play those. We want people to be able to get a sense of playing with other people and to see other people and feel like this is a real, live universe. If you're thinking, “Okay, okay, I understand all of that, Sean, but let's say all my friends want to go and play together.” That's not what this is about. You've seen the galactic map. I don't want to disappoint people. I don't want to answer your question and then they will think, “Yeah, yeah, he's saying it's difficult, but I'll do it. And then we will play Destiny together, effectively. We will all run around the planets.” No. If you want to play a first-person-shooter-sci-fi-run-around-on-a-planet game, play Destiny. It’s a really good game. Go play that. We're not trying to do that. Like Journey multiplayer, that was a huge part of the game for me, but they did a good job in not describing it as a multiplayer game. Journey would have been really disappointing if you entered into it thinking it was a multiplayer game. It's not. Dark Souls I think of as a single-player experience, but I'm really glad of the elements that they have in there.
Where did you find that question?

Don't think of it as a multiplayer game; don't expect to see your friends, much less play with them; don't expect to see anyone but please be amazed that the possibility is there, because that's how you sell a game: letting people know a feature exists but won't actually be used.
It's become very fashionable to be cynical about this game. So I'm going to be particularly edgy and be cynical about the cynicism. It seems to now be more of a bandwagon than a healthy skepticism. Sure be wary but at least wait for it to come out before you decry it as terrible.
if anything this game will be like Space Engine except with gameplay which is fine for me really tho i'd still much rather play Space Engine if the dev added gameplay to it
Can anyone give me some example of something that comes in a quintillion? just so i can get my head around how many that is? [editline]15th July 2016[/editline] Anyone here feel this game would be trice as good if only you could spawn close to your friends at game start?

[editline]15th July 2016[/editline] Anyone here feel this game would be trice as good if only you could spawn close to your friends at game start?
I remember reading that the ocean weighs something like 5 quintillion tons. [editline]t[/editline] Nevermind I just looked it up, it only weighs one and a half quintillion tons.
Can anyone give me some example of something that comes in a quintillion? just so i can get my head around how many that is?
http://www.kokogiak.com/megapenny/eighteen.asp Personally I don't get why there's a big fuzz over this number. Like 1% of them will be visited at all ever by anyone. Wow, sounds amazing, right? No, the number of planets in NMS is literally the same as the number of worlds in Minecraft. The only difference is that the worlds have a location in the NMS univserse (but not in the starting galaxy, we don't know how many planets are in the starting galaxy) while they don't in Minecraft. The number isn't interesting, it's the amount of variation that's possible with the world generator.
Can anyone give me some example of something that comes in a quintillion? just so i can get my head around how many that is?
That's more than the number of actual (estimated) galaxies in the observable universe (~500 Billion) but less than the number of actual (estimated) stars in the observable universe (~3.0 x 10²³) One quintillion is 10 to the power of 18.
seems they're going the "SP with integrated MP" route kinda like Journey where it's advertised as single-player but you might randomly come across other players on the same level oh well, playing a friend would've been a great incentive to play an exploration-type game like this, but i respect their decisions
Honestly if it even has as much content as Darkstar one (babbies first space game, reccomend it though) it will be fine.
Oh, that's smart. 18 quintillion planets to explore, and a quintillion is 18 zeroes.
It sure is super impressive that it has that many planets but for me that number means as much as if he would have said "There are 10.000 planets in this game!". I originally was hoping that everyone could start like a expedition company, construct buildings on owned planets, team up and explore together but none of things are apparently in the game. Hoping the combat is more then just watered down space battles
I understand people dislike the fact it's not multiplayer-focused, but imagine the significance of actually meeting another player in-game or coming across signs of someone 'having been here before'. All that is going to be a lot rarer than in a normal multiplayer game, which is awesome.

[editline]15th July 2016[/editline]
Now think about how cool it would be if you could share that moment with the people you care most about... your friends.
This pretty much, i respect that the developers want to do their own thing with their own game and that is totally fine obviously because its their thing but i just wonder how much more fun this would be if at some point at a game you could get your friend join in. Its all good fun to do it all alone and perhaps meet strangers but i personally get pretty bored of it once i have been alone for a while, kind of like Space Engineers.
As Totalbiscuit once said, any game good or bad is ALWAYS more fun with friends.

Wait No Man's Sky is ONLY single player? Sorry, been out of the loop for this game.

And like I said there are features to help you find players (friends show up on the galactic map and stars play a twinkle animation when a player makes a discover in it's system).
