How do they eject?
Side ways(?)
It didn't look like an explosion to me. Probably sparks due to the propellers hitting hard ground, and I it's not impossible that the crew survived.
How do they eject?
There actually are helicopters that have ejection seats, for an example the russian Ka-50. They trigger explosive bolts in the rotors a moment before the ejection seat fires up.
Kinda fucked up that you can hear children screaming in the background. I really hope they aren't participating in the firefight.
No, they are probably just there because that's where they live, you realize that this is happening in their backyards?
why the hell are people rating it funny, hell i want to see them on a helicopter going down
No flares? No radar system warning? They didn't expect a AA of any kind going into a somewhat battle zone?
How do they eject?
Explosive bolts detach the main rotor and the canopy, and the seats are time delayed to shoot out after both are safely clear. Some Soviet/Russian made helicopters use this system.
helicopter ejection
nearly all helicopters have no form of ejection seats, as mentioned multiple times now there's a very limited number of exceptions like the Ka-50 and variants. that's it. the reason why they don't have ejection seats is because they don't need them: even without power, a helicopter can autorotate down to the ground in a very safe and controlled manner, as if it had a giant parachute
Jesus, people bring this up every time it's heard in a video. It's just their equivalent of saying "holy shit" or showing profound disbelief.
I thought it meant "Allah is the greatest" kind of different
No flares? No radar system warning? They didn't expect a AA of any kind going into a somewhat battle zone?
I don't know if this is actually true, but I read that russian AA can't target russian air, without someone to reprogram it, I keep up with most of the conflict in Syria and this is the first time there has been a SAM.
I don't know if this is actually true, but I read that russian AA can't target russian air, without someone to reprogram it, I keep up with most of the conflict in Syria and this is the first time there has been a SAM.
Well, no, IR doesn't discriminate. Russian hot is the same as any other hot. Also, you just happen to know that this is the first time a SAM has been fired in the conflict how?
I thought it meant "Allah is the greatest" kind of different
Translated literally it does, but colloquially it doesn't.
If you guys are going to talk about it so much, at least say it right. It's 'Allahu Akbar'.
i think we should be more concerned on why OP was scavenging youtube for this video fucking
TERRORIST SCUM

No flares? No radar system warning? They didn't expect a AA of any kind going into a somewhat battle zone?
unguided?
I was expecting tedcrusty
There's a different video of a different helicopter being shot down, which fucking explodes into nothing in mid air after a few seconds There's also "supposed" after math showing the bodies of the crew members in pretty rough shape. And by rough I mean you know.. not intact or identifiable
Jesus, people bring this up every time it's heard in a video. It's just their equivalent of saying "holy shit" or showing profound disbelief.

Jesus

the power of allah akbar
All those "allah ackbar"s are not gonna help with 'muricas views of the middle east
All of those "Oh god" "Jesus christ" and "God damnits" aren't going to help with the middle east's view of the US
If you guys are going to talk about it so much, at least say it right. It's 'Allahu Akbar'.
actually it's الله أكبر

Holy hell that thing just disintegrated. Ammo cache or whatever probably lit.
I don't know if this is actually true, but I read that russian AA can't target russian air, without someone to reprogram it, I keep up with most of the conflict in Syria and this is the first time there has been a SAM.
Well sort of, the target acquisition radars (TARs) used with some SAM platforms have the ability to operate at the same frequency as the aircraft so it can utilize the IFF system. However, the SAM shown in the video does not have that capability. The characteristics of the "SAM" in the video looks more like a MANPAD or even an RPG than anything else.
just to bring up allahu akbar again, why do people scream "allahu akbar" while firing off weapons, rockets, etc? doesn't sound like "disbelief" "holy shit" to me. more like "woo-hoo" or maybe "fuck yeah!"
it's just a general purpose exclamation for arab folk
Hope noone got injured though :>
The pilot just turned to the explosion and was like, 'Fuck off'.
Was it the same helicopter at the end? It looked like nothing had happened to it.
You'll be surprised how much those Mi-8(or-17s) can take.. probally hull damage, maybe damage to one of the engines. Pilot starts to decent which causes the rotors to spin due to airflow.. then he slightly banks it away from the threat and voilah.. you can innitiate an emergency landing. Hope this shedded some light on the situation.
yh okay lads we know god is an absolute babe but you can shut up and if u don't ill be forces to crack out the bacon butties (User was permabanned for this post ("Gimmick" - Orkel))
When they started yelling "allah akbar" I though they kinda sounded like ducks or something when you run into a bunch of them and they start flapping around and making startled noises with their cute little duck beaks, you know?
It actually blew up when it hit the ground. 1:25
Damn, that sucks.
