What do you think medieval warfare was like? It was bludgeoning the other guys onto the ground and then continuing to do so until you pieced his armor or smashed him, or you could pull out a dagger and pierce the weaker parts of his armor. It wasn't Rob Roy.
let's reiterate the sentiment
there were way too many fighters in one space and as a result they just kinda wiggled up against each other for a while, it wasn't very visually exciting outside of some of the slowmo shots
I wouldn't even call it historically accurate to fights because they (obviously) weren't allowed to use piercing actions nor weapons with enough carry-through like warhammers to do real damage and floor combatants swiftly. When none of the frontliners are removed from the fight within seconds of the confrontation starting, you just get a big football-style shoulder-bashing at the center, and the people who are free to use their weapons can only do so by reaching over two or three teammates to tap somebody on the helmet a couple times
legit sword fight match-ups (full contact would still be fine), would've been cool to see when we have so much garbage theatrical sparring in media, but this was just a big mosh pit

reminded me so much of mount and blade and its retarded AI for some reason lol
Stuff like this is one of the things which makes me wonder what would happen if we brought back the real-deal. Gladiatorial Battles and 1x1 duels to the death with sword.
Something tells me that the first few battles would garner a lot of criticism, but it would almost instantly vanish once people start to realize that they actually like seeing people beat the shit out of each other.

For thousands of years this was the primary form of any kind of large scale entertainment.
Less swordfighting and more bludgeoning the other guy until he falls down, really.
Which is exactly what medieval armored fighting is all about.

With how people are attracted to the likes of LiveLeak, I can only imagine that something akin to MGS's "war economy" system would be fairly popular if it was done in such a way where countries would donate slum cities as areas for use in unit vs unit combat. Imagine some shitty parts of Detroit being completely bought out, and then used as a live-fire zone between two PMCs and having cameras livestreaming the whole affair over the internet.
People would fall in love with that type of thing, and it would probably be some serious big business.

sounds like the plot to gamer
It would be amazing if we could bring back the gladiator/colosseum racket...
We already have MMA and other such popular bloodsport! What would be so awful with giving them short-swords, spears, or axes to play with?
I'm not sure, but I think machete duels are a thing in some asian countries, probably as close to a modern gladiator scene as you'd get.

The deathrate.

If you guys want something that's a martial art of this but not lethal just look up HEMA. It's more or less MMA with swords.

Video is not representative but it looks cool.

Absolutely nothing like this. No soldier would wear the amount of armour or padding these guys wear. Remember, a medieval soldier doesn't just arm up for a fight. They arm up for a campaign. You would overheat if you had to walk 20km with this padding.
In combat, they'd rather have a bit less padding and no visor if it meant being able to fight more comfortably. Even with just a visor and a gambeson, you really start to feel the heat and lack of breath in just a minute of fighting. Also remember the lack of sight with a visor. With most helmets that fully cover your face, you wouldn't be able to see your own hands or feet.
Even though I like HEMA, I still want to see the real deal. Just the idea of sending two men or two women to do battle to either surrender or death is oddly charming to a degree. Not to mention solving disputes with folks would be a lot easier. Could you imagine if someone got into a land disagreement and agreed to goto a state colosseum to duel it out with small clubs and shields?
Oh yeah and another awesome factoid of colosseums was that you could fill it with water and do Naval Battles. You cannot tell me that you would not pay to watch a group do battle with sloops that are armed with airpowered cannons.

What's awful about that, exactly? It's not like our population is declining..

There's 2 german groups that fight with sharps, one intends to just get complete control over the opponents weapon, and then an actual hit would be superfluous, the other flails a bout like shit until their swords either break or they get a small cut on their arm.
