One of the laziest updates that this game has pushed out. But they're working on KF2, so I'll let it slide.
So a map that actually has story ties that lead directly into KF2 is a lazy update?
ok..
"none of which change the gameplay"

and since there's a ton of greyed-out weapon slots in the shop (in a game where your shopping time is incredibly limited), which leads to a lot of issues.
It wouldn't fit with the event (p sure the holiday, halloween, and summer sideshow events are non-canon to the main plot). It's supposed to lead into KF2.
lets be real here, though
there's no "plot" to kf lol

The funny thing is, is that there is a plot if you pay attention to the game.

i know it's there. but saying kf has a plot is like saying l4d has a plot. yeah it's there but it's a complete backdrop to the gameplay to the point that it hardly matters. it's not story driven at all.

I hate when people hate on Tripwire even though they've been releasing free DLC for >5 years now. Guys, how do you think they keep the servers up? Money! How do you think the employees get paid? Money! How do you think KF2 happened? That's right, money!
Contrary to what people believe, Tripwire isn't shitting out cash. They have bills to pay, employees to pay, maintenance, and on and on.

L4D is pretty story driven

Both KF and L4D are very heavily plot driven. Just because you don't recognize the plot does not mean it exists. Sure the games can just be blindly enjoyed, absolutely, but the story is HUGE.

something having a plot =/= "plot driven"
l4d is not driven by the plot, nor is kf. that's just silly. they're both overwhelmingly driven by the gameplay. they are not elder scrolls, they are not planescape, they are not deus ex, they are not half life, they're just not. the story is a backdrop that provides the setting for kf & l4d games, it is not - and never is or has been - the focus.
i love kf and i love l4d completely and utterly but the concept that they're "story driven" is just flat out hilariously silly, i mean come on.

They are story driven though dude. The story is literally the reason why you go from place to place, L4D has a storyline for each stage as you go through them, they were supposed to have transitional cutscenes between stages. The story isn't a huge deal, whether or not you choose to focus on the gameplay or story, it is story driven.

pretty much like saying doom is story driven, the story is interesting but not integral for the game, we are in hell, kill all the demons

Yes, because the entire update is lazy.
Yes, because the entire update is lazy.
weren't you just talking about this gay ass shit a while ago, kf2 is being made, this is at least a fresh breath of air for the old game

"were supposed to" = they don't. because valve decided that the story takes a backseat to the game for l4d.
The story isn't a huge deal, whether or not you choose to focus on the gameplay or story, it is story driven.
for something to be story driven that means the experience utilizes the story as the main focus. it is a story driven game. elder scrolls. system shock. stanley parable. half life. portal. stalker. the witcher. kotor. these are story driven games. they put story and atmosphere as the focus, the elements that make up the game are there to enhance the story itself, not the other way around.
killing floor is about shooting zombies in the face. same with l4d. they're not "about" something higher than that. the scenarios are built around shooting zombies in the face, not the other way around, not telling a story. killing floor is an arena shooter. l4d is an unending transition from point a to point b. the way that you can tell that they're not story driven is how completely disparate the scenarios are. no mercy had no bearing on dead air or on blood harvest. the extent to their connection is minor easter eggs like similar transportation that you see in each.
valve literally designed l4d to be like that as if each one was an entirely separate entity, ere the pulp movie theme of the design of the game. that's why there's posters in each. they're not supposed to be connected. it wasn't even until the cross release of the sacrifice that valve started minorly stitching everything together.
this whole argument is just utter silliness, because in the end it's pointless. i made an offhand joke that cannon or not cannon means jack shit in the world of kf because it's not and never has been focused on the plot. you can find it if you want and you can pay attention, but it is there simply to serve as a backdrop.

Because of the pure fact that the skins that were given in this updated looked like something my ten year old brother could have produced in under thirty minutes, and not even that, they were priced at $7. Are you kidding me? Oh, and to top it off, the new character, Rachael? Yeah, the didn't even take the time to give the character her own voice set when you use her in gameplay. Even more things that is wrong with the update? Half the achievements are bugged and don't unlock when you get the correct requirements.
Now, tell me. What was that?

Skins that don't affect the game. A playable character that didn't even need to be put in as a playable character imo, would have been to just keep her as his daughter guiding you through transit. Just a little addon they probably threw in.
Achievements that are bugged, happens in several games, it worked fine for them but something happened with dedi servers that messed it up, all of it got fixed within a day.
New update = bugs that are to be expected.

Considering that they only added 3 new maps when there are already a ton of custom maps, it'd be a pretty worthless update without at least the character.
wow 2009 was so long ago

Yeah I admit the skins are a cash grab to fund KF2, the voice lines aren't really a big deal for me since I'm not going listen out for any voice lines my character is saying while trying to hear if a zed is coming up behind me, besides that I really couldn't give a shit if there's no new voice lines at least you didn't have to pay for the skin and I haven't even noticed any bugged achievements all though it wouldn't surprised me if there were. The maps made up for it though, the update has been fine for me so far apart from transit being bugged on day one. don't mean to sound like I'm sucking tripwires dick or anything.

brick in head is unarguably correct. l4d and kf are in fact not story driven. as he said for a game to be "story driven" it means "the experience utilizes the story as the main focus" which l4d and kf blatantly do NOT. i can't fathom how can anyone even try to argue with this.
i am not being sarcastic either, you have to be really dumb not to understand his point.
