Put a handgun in its googlemouth. Bam. Terrifying already.
Wonder how long their battery lasts.
Video description says 90 minutes on a single charge. This one is doesn't rely on hydraulics like the previous robots, so it doesn't make that horrible noise either. Really interesting to see the Big Dog concept evolve over time. Wonder what they'll have for us in another 5 years?
in 5 years the new robot will be the size of a housecat, from there it just gets smaller and smaller
in 5 years the new robot will be the size of a housecat, from there it just gets smaller and smaller
Eventually they'll just be the size of fruitflies

According to the description, 90 minutes depending on activity level

Imagine the human race being enslaved by something like that.
A robot with googly eyes.
This is the beginning of our future

glad to see one of the boston dynamics finally at a Healthy weight.
HELLO MASTER. I HAVE PREPARED YOUR DEATH BED. HOWEVER, IT IS CURRENTLY TIME FOR YOU TO TAKE ME WALKIES.

It's gonna be like MGS4 out there
Now have it play with a real dog and see how they get along
I love that robotics technology is advancing but at the same time it terrifies. Its just weird seeing something made out of steel and circuits doing household chores that are usually reserved for humans.
I don't want humanity to become what the humans became in Wall-E.
Like, Im not a Luddite, but I think part of being human is doing physical work.

We will still need people to fix them when they break. And when robots fix other robots, they will need humans to fix them as well. The level of technology, and not to mention space, required to have the "robots building robots" thing is never going to happen unless there is a serious reform with how we as a people (that is, everybody on the planet) handle money.
When they start making something that can learn (and I mean actually learn, not some programmed subroutines, an actual real AI) then there will be something to worry about. From the looks of things in this particular demo, it's as if most of it were pre-programmed instructions. It looks like they have all the technology in place, but there is obviously still the necessity of human input. Go from point A to point B. Take this path to go there. Pick up this item and move it here. Pick up that thing and put it here.
It's obvious that as time has went on they've found lots of ways to automate the functions of it. For example I'm sure they now have their own pathfinding system. I don't think we'll ever hit a point in a reasonable time frame where we have true automatons taking care of our household chores. Think of how much overhead there is in these current models for doing the most simple of things, like keeping balance, processing surroundings, and general movement. Balance alone likely uses tons of overhead. That probably doesn't leave much room for "independent" or pre-programmed illusions of thought.
[editline]23rd June 2016[/editline]
On the other hand it's entirely possible they have minimal overhead with everything and they're just slowly building the first Bladewolf, but only time will tell.
They really need to lock that front door. Every time they make a new robot they just walk out.
if they give it the ability to seek out its charger when its low power this thing will basically have self-preservation instinct

Thats because these ones dont have room for a chainsaw engine powering a generator, they are battery operated.
can you imagine how terrifying it would be to have that thing charge at you while you're running up the stairs?
not if you brought your emergency banana

That slip is like something out of a cartoon
When I saw that arm stabilization, I realized how big this will be for filming movies and stuff.
When I saw that arm stabilization, I realized how big this will be for filming movies and stuff.
It's just doing (of course, pretty well done) inverse kinematics, it's pretty common on legged robots. I don't see them using this for film because it'd be ludicrously expensive and it wouldn't be as stable.

Looks like a goddamn disembodied ram skull covered in chrome. Like something straight out of the film 9.

Humans are big brained mammals with no fur or exceptional fighting ability. Against most predators we will lose. Making tools to do things for us is extremely human. In fact, it's arguably exclusively human.

Its such a long time to brainstorm and develop new technology that it is a no brainer to ask "why"
The day shit like that can be done by clapping your hands will be the day when we will see eight legged vacuum cleaners that shoot mayonnaise

Well it won't be expensive forever. Also, I think it's already capable of doing things and going places that a human camera operator won't.
