That's not really fair, according to the interview he believed Doom 1.0 was really good, but it wasn't a good fit for the franchise. I think that's why Hugo is a great fit for ID, he really understood what the audience wanted and went above their expectations with Doom 2016

the best part is the dude has a substantial budget for a one man project because of patreon alone, so i don't think he'll be losing his path any time soon.
