Why do tax brackets exist in the United States rather than some sort of logarithmic scale?
It's because the way our tax system actually works. The money you make inside of each different tax bracket is only taxed that specific amount. So for example, a person who makes say $30,000 gets taxed 0% for their first $9000 dollars made, and then is taxed at the fifteen percent on their next $21000 made. You can't really do that with a logarithmic scale.
