I honestly think this is a response to that problem. This could help a ton with suicide prevention and developing social skills in people that don't interact enough.
I guess there's that, but to prevent anything other than an advanced alarm clock could, then you'd need a looot more advanced AI.
Usually they're only treated as characters if they're a "true" AI, like a human mind running on a computer. Gatebox looks like a cute girl, but at the end of the day it's just another conventional assistant program, and will never give you any real companionship.
Yeah but honestly it's Alexa with a 3D avatar which is cool in itself.
As a second thought, this reminds me way too much of the Black Mirror christmas episode. I'm now feeling uncomfortable.
It's like a super depressing version of Her. Which does sound like a Black Mirror episode to be honest.
The Christmas episode's AIs were conscious though. That's different.
There's videos of it in action. Here's an example.

As much as I would like one, I would rather spend $3.5k on a high end gaming setup, and having a virtual anime girl on the computer screen. Maybe in the future I will buy one when they add more characters and features.

Wait it costs $3500?!
If you wanna spend nearly 4k to satisfy your need to spend time with a woman then I can think of some way better options
Remove the need to press button to communicate (Use the name calling or something). Make the AI (if you can call it that) much more advanced. I don't mind if there is not a large choice of characters. Just make some very neutral boring one, but put a lot of effort into other stuff like what it can do and how complex communication it can do. I can see potential in this, but at the moment it's more like an animated waifu figurine hologram. I expect something more from this, but it's pretty interesting thing if it works well.
AI assistant would be really good for doing simple stuff quickly. It could be something like: "open the door" when your hands are busy, "set a 10 minute timer" when you are cooking, "remind me to buy eggs today", or some simple arithmetic calculations for whatever you may need it.
Basically what google now / siri does, but as a much more advanced standalone home assistant.
This is a start.

And yeah, price is a bit too high for what it can do at the moment.
Looks like 'Her' wasn't a movie but a documentary.
this type of shit was gonna happen eventually
internet is the age of people being isolated yet connected to hundreds of people online.
I'll take 2. One for me and one for my wife's son.
fixed
Yeah but honestly it's Alexa with a 3D avatar which is cool in itself.
That's true. It's how it's played as a friend instead of just an assistant that I find creepy. But something more impersonal like the VI things from Mass Effect would be cool with this projector.
I'll take one if it can just be my friend and play video games with me
Is this some weird satire, even the guy in the advert looks fucking depressed
Its heavily targeted towards what the Japanese call the "Salary Man". Basically a male Japanese working guy that works 70+ hours a week for crap pay and benefits and gets shit on by society and has no GF/Wife. Anthony Bourdain on Netflix does a pretty good segment about the underground culture that has developed around it.
I lived by myself for two years, every day coming home to silent house, I texted my friends, chatted online and never heard a single voice for two whole years and it fucking hurt.
I downloaded 6 hour long audio clips of people talking in crowded places just to convince myself that I wasn't alone.
I don't think you understand how much I would love an app like what it shows where you can talk to a virtual significant other / best friend. Because I'm exactly the kind of sad sack that would benefit from having something like that.
Wow that ending got too real.
I wanna see one try to escape their glass jar, only to realize they're trapped forever with some antisocial and awkward dude.
I wonder what happens if you get mad at them?
"SHUT UP BITCH! I HATE YOU!"

I'm using AUD, so it's about 3k USD. In the long run, she's way cheaper than paying women to spend time with you. She's with you forever, unlike the x hours women will charge you.
Can I get one but with Randy Savage inside? Imagine waking up to a loud " OOOH YEAH, IT'S 8 AM, TIME TO GET UP." Hulk Hogan would work too. *loud BROTHEEERRR coming from the speakers*
I wonder what happens if you get mad at them?

I'll be honest, if it started to cry I'd feel pretty bad.
Lower that pricetag to about 200-300 dollar range and sure why the fuck not? Can't wait to tell her to shut the fuck up in the mornings on my day off when I'm sleeping in. Then for that movie night I'll plonk her down in front of Alien or Jacob's Ladder and scar her digital mind for life.
The tech is nifty though. :v:
"to the master's life rhythm"

there is a worryingly high ammount of stuff that uses master
The concept is great.
The deployment is creepy.
The pricing is terrible.

But wouldn't that happen anyway when you give it a name and a face?
I mean it's innovative I guess but I don't know if there's a market for a TRANSPARENT TRASH CAN
But wouldn't that happen anyway when you give it a name and a face?
It's more about its tone and behaviour. The Google and Amazon things just use plain text to speech delivered without any emotion - but the Gatehouse seems to talk excitedly and text you during the day about how much it misses you. I think it probably has more quirks like this to give the impression it cares about you.

Skynet turns on the "Abusive Relationship" AI, forcing all users to become submissive to control.
As hilarious as this is, there will always be someone out there who will be willing to pay for a fictional companion.

damn that's rough
Do we have anything similar to this now?
Preferably for android?
Time for me to stop being a NEET so I can afford her
Target market: NEETs
Price: Well out of NEET range
I don't think they thought this through
Target market: NEETs

honestly i think the target market is more for people with absurd work hours that involves them being away from human interaction entirely and any free time they do get they're way too exhausted for proper human interaction
