Ignoring the awkward and depressing aspect of it (which I get might be hard, given the severity) the tech is pretty disappointing. If you look at the tech page on their website it's literally just a projector onto a card, it's fully 2D. They even show this in the promo video, and props to them for being honest but I'm not sure what the point is in having a "hologram" that's entirely 2d on a 2d plane inside a tube. For the price you could basically get a microsoft hololens, and it's hard to put into words how much cooler of an experience that would be even given that the hololens is currently a devkit that is not meant for consumers atm.

Reading the website and some of the preview videos, other characters are inside the Gatebox with other modes (like some redhead that plays music). It's also connected to your wifi network and the phone (for obvious reasons), and can be connected to your laptop to see the character better, make new characters, and do some other stuff.
How long before someone mods in/cracks the program, and starts using it's camera/other things for bad stuff? Like the abilty to be connected to a buisnessman's phone/wifi/house network would be a nightmare to deal with.
It'd be like if SHODAN was a cute anime girl

I'll understand the pricing if its a "smarthome" unit. And the thing unlocks the door turns on the light and heaters and all that stuff for you.
But all that shit better be self contained, I mean really a "smarthome" thermostat is like $300, then if you want lights its another $200, then another $150 for smart doorbells and you can have your own smart weather station for like $250. If this thing has all that feature built in then eh I guess 3k is 3k but then nobody wants a smarthome yet these days.
