reinstall if you haven't already.
10/10
Reminded me of the levels with the invisible cyber-monks or whatever.
Scary times.
the shotgun and kicks were the best parts of the game
I played F.E.A.R. for the first time about two years ago. It's incredible, didn't feel for a second it was 10 years old, can't recommend it enough.
Missing some fun stuffs though:
-nailing enemies to the walls with the spike gun
-steaming bloody skeletons left behind by the particle beam weapon
-slide kicking corpses into oblivion
-shooting enemy grenades from the air
-mines and sticky grenades
The penetrator and shotgun were so much fun to use
shame I can't seem to get around that HID device fps tank bug

The game had terrible fps for me but I patched it with a file that I found on the steam forums. Ran like a charm, definitely worth replaying the first game with it's expansions. It's great.
I'd love a remake of this game done the same way as the Halo Anniversary(exact same gameplay but with modern graphics). Unlike other games that get remakes, F.E.A.R. legitimately has gameplay that doesn't feel dated.
F.E.A.R. deserves every single bit of praise it gets. More game developers need to study this game and understand what an ORGASMICALLY GOOD first person shooter is like. To elaborate, I'm talking about how well they made the AI and gunplay. For a game this old, the AI deserves so much praise, the human enemies are very responsive and quite interesting to fight against.

hopefully the art direction wouldn't take after fear 2 and 3. 2 was mostly a Crysis knockoff and the characters and weapons in 3 just looked like garbage
I can play this game for hours and still not mind that I've been blasting the same guys over and over in a bunch of offices and warehouses.
In any other game, that would bore me to tears. Just goes to show how strong FEAR's gunplay is.

I never uninstall this game.
The horror elements mostly sucked imo but the gunplay was just out of this world. Shame what happened to the franchise.
I remember being amazed at the bullet holes being pseudo 3D
what i loved about FEAR is that everyone bigged it up to abloogywoogy woo scary game with creepy little girl
and then it's like Max Payne on heavy skunk and two jagerbombs, divebombing through a window to bicycle kick a HGrunt out of a window.
there was one great moment where i got stuck with just 20hp, only heavy assault rifle ammo, no explosives, and one of those fuckoff ED-209 robot things they hurl at you in the later game. so i just ufcking shootdodged into it blaring Rules of Nature at max volume. it was fan tastic.
It's crazy how a ten year old game still holds up so well visually just by great environmental design alone.
OH MY GOD THIS SONG IS FROM URBAN CHAOS! FUCK! I WAS WONDERING WHY THE LYRICS WERE SO FAMILIAR.
Played it a few months ago, still holds up and it got me good (in terms of story). The level design is 10/10 too.

Last time I saw the game being played, something quite interesting happened with the ragdoll physics.
I've probably mentioned this before, but for a kooky F.E.A.R experience where the ragdolls have a tendency to flip out and go bananas, watch Helloween4545's Let's RePlay of F.E.A.R. It gets crazy. This part in Set 1 demonstrates what I'm talking about. You can expect a lot more weird glitch-outs throughout the LP.
Say what you will about the horror parts but you have to admit the FEAR team knew how to make a kickass shooter.

Another unique and fantastic FPS right there. It's a shame that neither have had worthy successors, it's an untapped corner of the market that players would flock to.
Urban Chaos was fantastic and unique. Never quite played another game like it.

Not being a fan of horror games I liked the horror sequences, they almost never relied on jump scares, they were quite atmospheric and they never overstayed their welcome
But definitely not the highlight of the game, though I'm not sure whether or not it was by design and they just botched the marketing. I remember avoiding playing it for years because I was sure it was just another horror game.
Well holy shit, apparently I need to get this game now. All I knew it for was 'ooky spooky' and 'scary lil girl' and that was it. It looks more like SWAT 4 on copious amounts of stimulants
My only complaint is that the HUD doesn't scale to the resolution. And that's pretty minor.

Nah the horror stuff was definitely over done. The first few jump scares got me and then after that they did absolutely nothing because they threw them at you so often and were always so predictable, which they then dialed up to 10 in FEAR 2. Doesn't hurt the game though of course.

Yeah, no. There were so many jump scares, most of them I can just list from the top off my head.
The infamous ladder, Alma in the vents, Alma behind the window coming at you after you exit the room, the spooky ghost world where the skeleton comes out of the blood pool. Etc, etc...
Yeah although apart from the cheapshot jumpscares it was fine. Atmosphere was nice though.
Although I didn't mind the ladder, that was pretty creative tbh
