I think he means the actual sequels. They are inferior, but FEAR 2 was still pretty fun for what it was worth. Never played FEAR 3 though. I never heard anything good about it
He mentions the GOG version, but GOG doesn't have F.3.A.R., but the GOG version does come with the expansions.
I haven't got far in fear 3 but from what I remember of 2, it was just your average, mediocre ps3 era shooter.
I thought FEAR 2 was fun, it's not too different from the first game really in terms of gameplay just with slightly shinier graphics and more jump scared.
3 is a fun co-op experience but that's about it. I actually liked 2 a fair bit, I guess I'm the minority in that.
F3AR had an excellent first person cover system and fun mech sections but everything else sucked
i thought 2 was good fun, and the downloadable chapter where you play as a replica soldier was really cool. 3's second player/unlockable possession mechanic was neat imo. literally banjo tooie's scrapped devil bottles game mode.
I'd love a remake of this game done the same way as the Halo Anniversary(exact same gameplay but with modern graphics). Unlike other games that get remakes, F.E.A.R. legitimately has gameplay that doesn't feel dated.
Probably because shortly after F.E.A.R. game devs stopped caring about enemy AI, so F.E.A.R still has some of the best AI of any game. It's a shame really cuz I'm sure we could make some damn good AI with modern neural networks now
I liked Fear 3 for the [sp]sole reason that me and my friend didn't really know it was a competition until the final cutscene when it started tallying everything up and picked one of us as the 'winner' and we got that ending. also it's really cool in the multiplayer that it cuts to the scoreboard on the exact frame that your health reaches 0, it's a subtle but kind of cool in it's own right to not have any follow-up or dying animation or anything. You just see something jump at you and then bam menu screen.[/sp]
The replica soldiers had a lot of personality which is weird because they're all clones of the same guy and they're nothing like him or each other. I distinctly remember one part of the game where you overhear two of them talking about getting laid or looking at titties.
Sometimes I wonder if them being replicas was added in later into FEAR's development. Either that or they decided to give them personalities to make them less boring. What fun is shooting a clone if they don't yell shit?
Well holy shit, apparently I need to get this game now. All I knew it for was 'ooky spooky' and 'scary lil girl' and that was it. It looks more like SWAT 4 on copious amounts of stimulants
Have you ever wanted to dropkick a guy so hard he explodes? If the answer to any of these questions is "yes," then FEAR might be the right game for you. Fucker shouldn't've stole all the Diet Squish.
A little off-topic from FEAR, but the guy who made this video is literally too good at video games.
All games are on sale for 2.99€ on Bundle Stars right now and you can activate the uncensored versions, too! I couldn't buy the first game because it's region locked on Steam but it works with those keys. Gonna play the shit out of this today. https://www.bundlestars.com/en/bundle/fear-bundle
I remember first playing FEAR and being wowzered by the particle effects and my dogshit computer trying to keep up
I actually picked up F.E.A.R. at a local game shop years ago and never bothered to actually play it. Still sitting unopened in it's CD case somewhere, I'll have to open it and play it soon
My favorite memory of playing FEAR was going slow-mo just as a solider whipped around the corner and cut him in half with the shotgun (the only other game that made shotguns as badass as FEAR was Warframe). Not only did he fly apart in half, but his torso slammed against the back wall. It's a shame they nerfed the shotgun after retail version for MP.
Just bought the bundle, have never played FEAR 1 in my life. Might play it high as fuck - we will have to see.
i love FEAR and its gameplay but i feel like people always overrate the AI, the only interesting thing is their communication but when it comes to actions they're really not as amazing as people say.
When you compare it to the AI in modern AAA games, it is. Yeah it's simple but the level design made it shine. It's like the AI in Source. It's actually pretty static when you learn how it works, but when a level is properly noded it actually has interesting behavior coming from a simple system.
I remember first playing FEAR and being wowzered by the particle effects and my dogshit computer trying to keep up
I used to play it on a PC so weak it could barely run CS1.6 perfectly straight Did it while also recording a bit of the playthrough with fraps aswell! It was actually pretty well optimized, since it allowed you to force dogshit graphics with pixel doubling, essentialy gimping quality for performance on purpose. The replicas use the environment pretty well as cover and stuff, and take action according to their situation, and iirc, that escalates with difficulty. They still have spazz out moments where it zaboobs itself and makes them run away from you holding full size rifles pointing at you.

Welp. Gotta give it another playthrough even though I already did that last year.
This game is a good game. [vid]https://u.nya.is/xdwqbu.webm[/vid]
Why do so few games have bullet time? Especially for power trip games, it makes you feel like a badass.
Because it is an absolute bitch to do in MP.
While I do love FEAR 1 it's sad that I never got to finish it. I should try to someday.
Because it is an absolute bitch to do in MP.
Rockstar managed to do it with MP3 Can you also explain why
Rockstar managed to do it with MP3 Can you also explain why
Rockstar are technical wizards, MP3 in general was filled with amazing tech that made it incredibly satisfying to play
Not to mention they worked on it for ages, so who knows how much time they spent trying to integrate it into the multiplayer
Spookiest thing about F.E.A.R. is how Paxton Fettel looks like Nicholas Cage.
i literally cannot unhear his name as "paxman fennel" ever since my friend mispronouncedi t. [editline]22nd May 2017[/editline]
Rockstar managed to do it with MP3 Can you also explain why
it works like shit in MP3's multiplayer. infact all of MP3's multiplayer aspects were fucking unbelievable garbage and a shitty trial attempt at the then-in-development GTAV's multiplayer. its only the coop gamemode that was alright.
Because it is an absolute bitch to do in MP.
I can think of one game that managed it somewhat, TimeShift and that's only because it happens in really, really obviously marked fields. Manipulating the timescale of things in a MP game without something like shit huge zones seems like it'd be an incredible ballache. Does everyone in the server get slowed down? Just the people within an area? Anyone who happens to look in the direction the slow down is coming from? How do you keep it fair? How do you make it fun?
I remember The Specialists pulling it off pretty decently, but it's been a while since I played that.
FEAR Combat also had power-ups in multiplayer for slow-mo, though I never got the chance to play it so I don't know how it works personally.
