If there's any stock in Wikipedia's definition this video hits it at almost all points
1. deliberate violations of causal reasoning
2. producing events and behaviours that are obviously illogical.
3. situation described is so ridiculous or unlikely.
The difference is that secrios' work does not purposefully hit these. The events and behaviours are illogical but they were not meant to be. That's why it's "lol random" and not something beautifully surreal.
what's weird is the the individual scenes themselves aren't surreal, just stupid
It's only when they're woven together and you realize that they all operate on wildly different logic that they take on that fever dream quality. You go from wacky pewdiepie chair mode onion soup XD to horror soldier zalgo spookyness to anime naruto kingdom hearts action.
I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt :v:
But too be fair, if it's surreal comedy its not really supposed to be surreally beautiful.
This is not Surreal Comedy, it's literally just Random stuff happening.
I'm not sure what good Surrealist humor is, I can't find an example on google image, but it's not just two people talking and then someone screaming pancake at the top of their lungs.

On that note, why do I get the creeping feeling that Vodkavia is here on behalf of Secrios?

i guess this might count as surrealist humor

Holy fucking shit.
A while back, MovieMowDown tried to get me to voice act the spy. He didn't tell me what it was for, he just wanted to know if I could sound french. He never got back to me on that, and I'm glad that he didn't after seeing this.
Random and Surreal humor always seemed pretty similar to me, it's just that random humor usually sucks.
I noticed this a lot when I was supervising/teaching children making stop motion videos.
When you're making a video, time passes 100x slower for you than the viewer.
Every frame has anywhere from 1 to 180 seconds between it and the next.
Which basically means for the children that lolrandumb is the norm.
A man may climb a mountain but as soon as that scene's done his head needs to explode, it's a good idea at the time so why not?
Apparently not everybody left their childlike patience behind as they matured since it's clear to me now that that's pretty much what happened.
A strange similie, that of the child filmmaker. Fitting though.
Considering how much he has "borrowed" from others works I'm surprised he hasn't been piled with DMCA takedowns yet. Especially because he's getting money for it.
And thus, with an X, Secrios technically finally pops his head in the door.
Surreal humor is not part of the surrealist art movement, Mr. Salvador is not who you wanna call.
Umm yeah he is, because he is the most well known surrealist in the world, and he would tell you what is surreal, and what is just garbage.
If suddenly you woke up in a world of TF2 pony anime inception, would you not at all describe the situation as at least somewhat surreal?
No. Surreal is like if I was dreaming that I was in a city, and the buildings and walls were made of flesh, the pipes made of organs, the river filled with bodily fluids, and the windows and doors various orifices.
What you are describing is a car pileup in Atlanta during the Winter. A gigantic, jagged, tragic mess.
Some of the comments on the orginal videos are so fucking... impressive.
People actaully seem to like this for the references???
Oh man, I have to stop the video every few seconds, this is way too much.
Cringe in its purest form, I love it.
the good thing is that we can endure the video without actually giving the original video any visits.
i'd love to see the author flag it as stolen material seeing how much stuff on the original is nothing but rips.
Now, now, it's a terrible video series, but there's no need to be dicks about it.

Oh god. Oh god. I browsed through his videos and saw a 1.2 million views video

How can you do this with a serious face? I could not do that with a serious face.

"Surreal humour (also known as absurdist humour) is a form of humour predicated on deliberate violations of causal reasoning, producing events and behaviours that are obviously illogical. Constructions of surreal humour tend to involve bizarre juxtapositions, non-sequiturs, irrational or absurd situations and expressions of nonsense.
The humour arises from a subversion of audience's expectations, so that amusement is founded on unpredictability, separate from a logical analysis of the situation. The humour derived gets its appeal from the fact that the situation described is so ridiculous or unlikely. The genre has roots in Surrealism in the arts."
TF2 gmodders have been doing this for a long time, this video isn't at all groundbreaking in terms of how much it lacks cohesiveness. If you jammed a bunch of videos from the same "genre" you get this.
"Its ok guys I was only pretending to be retarded because its funny!!!!!"

You know those scientists from Half-Life? I was screaming like them.
Holy shit those comments.

I really dodged the fucking bullet on this one...
:suicide:
Holy shit I think I know the guy or one of the guys who made this
I do Film Production at uni and we were all giving a presentation on what we'd done recently, one guy got up and part of his presentation was the scene with the "we need to go deeper" inception bit
He said it was part of a large project he'd been working on for almost a year
Oh my fucking god... These people or HIM (Not mac) used my profile pic in the video... Oh god, I need to lie down for a moment.
I forgot to mention the part it was on but for reference it's on the part where blu soldier or some shit goes ape shit and talks about chin chin and zalgo. Yeah I can go on about this fucking video but I won't it will be long.
Dear god that medium blending.
TF2 was never meant for realism.
Has Secrios commented on this yet and is there a chance I could find those Magic Look Presents you mentioned?
Mario vs Sonic? What is this, 1992?

Mmmmyes, this is truly one of the greatest works in theatre of the absurd, right up there with The Bald Soprano by Eugene Ionesco
or it's just awful
I find it incredibly fucking sad that, if he had said at the start that this video was a deliberate cringefest from the start, the video would have had much better feedback than it has now.

Was it ment to be that? Because Ironic such and such is still not good to make.
Either that or he was covering that he wanted to make that.
I have no idea why, but I'm not just angry at the video, but also commenters like you people. Neither's doing it right, one made a crap video, others sling shit at it as opposed to finding the right channels to inform him of his video's flaws constructively.
I am sorry, but I cannot get behind the whole "This guy sucks, let's gang up on him" mentality even if isolated into a thread like this.

Nah I mean I know he wasn't treating this video like a joke (I mean christ the amount of "work" that went into this) but if he had, it would probably be accepted a lot better than it is now.

dude, I totally understand helping people improve their videos to help them be more successful, but I'm just in awe that this project has been going on for so long and no one has said anything about how horrendously cringeworthy it all is. I mean, someone has to have said SOMETHING about this right?
The only conclusion I can make is that he ignored anyone who thought what he was doing was bad and stuck with it, and I think the feedback that it has got is a big enough wake up call to say "hmm, I think I went a bit overboard with the references in this video" which to be honest is my main gripe with this video.
Ah I see what you mean Hogie, bad reading on my part.
