When I used to play RP servers in gmod I would always rise through the ranks very quickly and use my position of power to fund the drug lords and gangsters as a corrupt police chief or mayor. I would use the seriousness of the players to my advantage and do shit like plant drugs in people's apartments or convince one of my devoted followers to let me kill them in someone's store or house to frame the owner for murder.
In one server that was pretty relaxed I built a massive wall around a major part of the city once I became mayor and added in a wire system to only allow desirables into my city. The gate would only open if you were on a list of SteamID's the wire setup would check against. If you were not on the list a turret would shoot you.
I created a split and the walled off area became a prosperous flow of money and everything outside was a shanty town with hobos throwing poo at each other. I then set up and mounted an operation to remove said shanties and their shanty towns by rolling through with death squads.
People who tried to sneak into the city through back ways were regularly hunted.
It was fucking awesome. Sucks that servers like that don't exist anymore.
Me and a friend downloaded 400mb to play stalker rp in gmod, all hyped up and ready to go hunt artifacts/ drink vodka.
What we found was a bunch of xenophobic people hiding in bunkers doing sex RP.

Hell, even seriousRP CAN be fun if you have the right setting and people involved (I really enjoyed Jutland when Cosmic ran it) but most of the time it gets bogged down by apathy and repetition, along with the typical cancerous slew of RULESOVERREASON and shitlords.
What ruins RP is that 90% of the players just run around looking for an excuse to kill people.
