I'm really into VR right now and I really want to get this and play it in VR but I have heard no end of people complaining about controls. From what I understand this game doesn't have touch control support which works fine for something like Elite Dangerous where you have a joystick but a game like this seems like it would just kill the fun of playing in VR if your having to use a keyboard and mouse for your hands. If they plan on adding touch control support for the future I will very much so consider a purchase.
I'm tempted to buy it just to see how bad it is. I can generally deal with unintuitive controls as long as it's fully playable. There's always the option to refund. I'm mostly scared of motion sickness since I've seen a bunch of people complain about that. Someone on the steam forums said the game made him vomit and I'd rather not risk experiencing that.

It's honestly not that bad with a controller, but it could be better. I wouldn't buy this expecting a vr game, IMO
It's still a great game, but the vr support still needs some tweaking

A tip - go into this game blind, do not look up hints or spoilers or anything. The exploration and discovery is one of the best parts.
Seconded.
Even though the map is handcrafted, it is HUGE and I am still finding new things and I have not explored everything. The best part of the game is discovering new biomes and creatures.
I will say one thing to new players, you can stop the radiation leaking from The Aurora. Just make sure to take a welder, laser cutter, scanner, knife, fire extinguisher, and a lot of batteries. I say this because I sunk dozens of hours into the game while still using the shitty radiation suit and I didn't know that
I can't believe I haven't touched this game despite watching countless streams of it and wanting it since it first came to steam. Time to get it I guess.
I've played through it from start to finish 3 times, all the way back to the update right after they added seabases the first time. It's an incredibly atmospheric game, with great sound design, level design, and some of the best survival gameplay I've enjoyed in ages.
Cannot recommend it enough, the devs have been wonderfully transparent and clear during the development period and it's a really great model of how to handle early-access titles.
I bought it based on this thread and dumped a couple hours in. I don't know why, but I'm struggling with some of the basic shit - like [sp]finding salt deposits is practically impossible for some reason?[/sp]. Aside from that, it plays well, the controls and feedback are great, and I enjoy the atmosphere. Just going to have to keep grinding for now.
The best thing about the game is that it's technically a prequel to Natural Selection.

I believe salt is more plentiful in the [sp]grassy plateaus (slightly deeper area with lots of red sea grass near the safe shallows). It goes down to about a 100 meters, so be careful about your O2. The sea life is a little more dangerous there, so stay on your toes.[/sp]
I played like 2 hours of this in VR. It was good though the controls were a bit off.
After watching that second trailer lets just say I'm fucking glad I stopped at 2 hours :v:
Its the opposite to me, it pump me to go deeper.
The main issues for me in VR is the HUD, especially the damn PDA, and wish i could rotate camera a little bit up and down with the xbox controller, looking all way down and up while seated tend to get tiresome for the neck.
Play this with headphones, the sound design is amazing to warrant it.
And yeah the VR support is nausea inducing after about an hour, the controls aren't so much of an issue for me but the PDA being funky and w/e your wielding being up against your right eye constantly will get to you after awhile.

It's not great but it's not bad either. The biggest issue is you your head is the cursor on menus. I played it with KB&M and it was fine. In fact it was nice to play a game in VR without needing to dance around worrying about boundaries for once.
i played this for 15 minutes in VR and got the fuck out of there soon after that. the first time i have felt genuine unease and dread in a very long time

eventually you'll be able to build [sp]a water filtration system which periodically produces large water bottles and salt.[/sp] You'll be swimming in the stuff after that.
Also get a [sp] scanner room. You can use it to highlight specific objects within its range. [/sp]

Just leave the starting biome more often, even if you're getting oxygen efficiency warnings. Many things in the starting biome aren't a rare spawn or anything, they don't spawn at all.
Speaking of spawns, I started a new game and can't for the love of god find MVB wrecks, argh

Right, found it
I haven't played this in VR and I already know they fucked up by not letting you use motion controllers to swim by doing different strokes.
Imagine being chased by a bone shark and your arms are getting tired

they should also make a breathing apparatus cutting your air and start pumping water instead when you reach 0 ox in the game
you know, for the immersion

I have played this game for 8 hours and I have to say that it's a pretty fucking ruthless environment, you constantly have to pay attention to things or you instantly get wrecked by something.
It lures you in with pretty relaxing sea life only to gradually reveal that it's lovecraftian horror incarnate.
It was a clever move for them to add in a new leviathan in the last few months before release, I got the game last spring so I knew roughly where all of the [sp]reapers and sea dragons[/sp] were, so that reduces the fear somewhat. But now, with [sp]ghost leviathans lurking in the Grand Reef and Blood Kelp Zones[/sp], I'm always going to be on edge there because I'm not 100% sure where their patrol paths lead them.
I miss invincible cyclopes, it was fun ramming everything
