The only vinyl figures I am interested in are these:

I think they're adorable as fuck and would happily keep them near my PC.
These are so cute. Shame it's blindboxes and they're kinda expensive.
The only PV's that are even remotely decent are the ones that don't follow the massive head/soulless eyes trend. I've got the Big Daddy from Bioshock and I think it looks great.
You can have a sick looking Big Daddy figure by painting it

Just 3 paints used over the original paintwork, it's basically just an aging effect, pretty easy to do

Apparently you can buy them a la carte too, as it were, for a slightly increased cost if you don't want to go the luck based route. This is what the entire set:

Personally I think the two most valuable one (Invis spy, Golden Engineer) are a bit uggo, tho.
On the other hand, baloonicorn pyro? D'awww :cat:

maxmoefoe's spent literal tens of thousands collecting funko pop figurines. he has a few that are worth several thousand dollars.
Oh damn I feel bad for laughing at him now that I know he's actually mentally challenged.
As someone who doesn't get figurines and thinks they're a waste of money in general, why do people hate Funko so much again? Like, I see nothing but visceral hate for them. Like, surely if you thought it was ugly... just don't buy them? Who cares what other people do with their money? What's the problem?
Other than what everybody has already said and the fact that they're so fucking ugly, they're such a zero-risk investment that they tend to devour the shelf space of any store that stocks anything pop-culture because there's so fucking many of them. This wall of Funko Pops at my local EB Games is larger than the entire Nintendo section combined, and that's including Switch games, 3DS games, demo kiosks, and Amiibos plus assorted merch and acecssories. And every time I go there the wall gets bigger. And this is only a fraction of this mass-produced garbage with every license under the sun. Nobody will buy anything of actual quality because of these things. And even for other vinyl figures that are at the same price but don't look like garbage, Funko Pops still shove them out because of how many licenses they have.

People will buy a million of these while complaining that something like a Nendoroid is too expensive because it's easy to mentally justify lots of small purchases that build up rather than buy one expensive thing in one go.

That is amazing. I may have to give it a try.

If WETA wasn't so expensive I'd love to buy some figurines from them, but the price is understandable with how much craftsmanship goes into them and how high quality they are.

Tbh i dont get prepainted models in general.
Like, with Model building you get to spend time and effort doing something calming like building the figure. If you paint it, it then becomes an little artistic endeavor. Even lego and gundam you have to build them.
With this stuff, you just buy it and plop it down. Its so... boring.

yeah well, not everyone who's a collector also has the skills to make a decent looking painted model
I don't understand figurines, why would I want to look at a model of a character I know instead of putting dumb INTRACTABLE things like this on my desk:
Those are toys that you're gonna use for...two or three days, tops, before you put them in a shelf and forget about them.
One thing about collectables (And I'm talking about good quality collectables, not Funko bullshit) is that it's easy to get hooked on and magically find more figures and accessories that your collection desperately needs for some reason

That's why I only collect Lego and Transformers. The latter isn't exactly buildable, but it is at least fairly interactive - especially with how the newer figures like Combiner Wars and Titans Return are all designed to interact with each other in different ways across multiple price points. It's pretty damn cathartic to take a 5 inch robot's head off, turn it into a tiny robot, transform his body into a car for him to ride in, and then repeat the process in reverse.
These are so cute. Shame it's blindboxes and they're kinda expensive.
Quick tip, if you are buying them from a store, you can scan the bar code and see which figure is in the blind box.

You sure about that? Is that just specific to the TF2 ones?
I work toy store retail and all blind boxes use the same bar code as each other.

Wait, how do the manufacturers know which box contains what, though? Is there some sort of lot code or something on the box?
Wish he'd burn these like he burns blind bag figures!
Wait, how do the manufacturers know which box contains what, though? Is there some sort of lot code or something on the box?
just to clarify because im not sure if i may have confused anyone with the way i worded it: all mystery boxes of the same specific set use the same bar code. so, for example, if you have this:
[t]http://cconnect.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/2016-Funko-Finding-Dory-Mystery-Minis-box.jpg[/t]
every box you ring up from this set will come up as "finding dory vinyl" in the system, so there would be no way to tell which is which even via ringing it up.
that's why im a bit skeptical about the TF2 boxes having unique codes for each other. it goes against the nature of these things, they want you to buy as many as you need in order to capitalize on people's obsessive nature to collect them all. ESPECIALLY since the TF2 set has rares. imagine being able to go to every store and specifically buy all of the rare ones, which may i add go for 100 dollars on ebay
Lego Minifigures used to have some dots on the packaging I think using which you can see what minifig is inside. My friend and I had an image of which dot set had which minifig and we succesfully got the ones we were looking for, but that was all the way back when they just released as Series 1.

Like, with painting you get to spend time and effort doing something calming like painting the picture etc. etc.
The problem is that there are some people (like myself) that just wants something to decorate with. I have 2 model ships that I haven't build yet because I'm afraid of messing everything up

Lego is also difficult to seriously mess up compared to most models since Lego comes pre-painted

"Collectables" can be anything you want to collect. Doesn't matter if it's toys or ~action figures~.

The best one I found for Bob Ross still remains this, though (not a vinyl figure, however, but just as hilarious):

I have a friend who collects fucktons of figurines and every time he mentions how much funko pops suck and how he has 0 of them I applaud him and nod in silent agreement.

I found the only good Pop figure to ever exist.
