Actually its major improvement. How is having a manual that lasts for ever instead of some manual you are bound to lose and is a huge waste of paper? How is saving a shitload of paper a dropping of quality in the industry over time? How is this such a major factor in the dropping of quality in the industry?
I still have the manual for Diablo II and Diablo LOD. The Diablo II manual is almost a small novel at 90+ pages, it has a very informative and in-depth guide on how to play Diablo II and has useful (during the times of Win 98) FAQs in it. It goes shit crazy with the lore; every spell, character, item and most monsters are given a bit of lore and back story. Normally it was around the lines of "this creature was once good but now it's EIIIIVVVLLLL!!" but it's still pretty fucking cool. They even throw in random poems and stories that relate to the game. Now games manuals are just "yo press these buttons, if something breaks got to this web site."
