Super excited for this, but it would have been nice to not see some implied spoilers in the trailer.
lol singapore @ 1:04
I love how the three towers of marina bay sands = singapore
we should like put it on our fucking money
ID4 was popular, make a self aware sequel, throw some jokes, everyone knows humans win, there's nothing deep or thought provoking about this, it's just a summer action movie. You know it's not going to be great because it's being SO overt about how it's using the coat tails of the original
And Will Smith turned it down. There's another red flag
A proper sequel about the aftermath, the consequences and politics involved with cleaning and using all the Alien's shit, maybe pockets of alien resistances formed from the huge crashed wrecks, would be pretty cool. But this is just meh
looks okay but everything being future tech kinda ruins the original premise where it felt like the humans didnt stand a chance at all, but since this tech is made from the aliens they'll be on equal ground outside of numbers and force.
It sounds like you didn't watch the trailer at all.
Can't wait. Good or bad, it'll be a blast to watch.
Roland Emerich makes another dumb shallow movie. Yay... Maybe this will be better than his work on 2012?
I love the XCOM/Battlefield Earth vibes.
They're showing so much in the trailer, I can't help but hope the final act is gonna involve going to their planet to deliver some massive fucking. Unlikely, but it really seems like they're using the Independence Day name to gain popularity while making their own cool ass alien invasion movie.
I thought the aliens have no home planet. Actually from the first movie it looked like all they had is their giant mothership, which was pretty much an ark carrying their whole species.
Though it's obvious this is not correct now with all the sequel stuff, so who knows.
Looks OK. What I would like is that they finally give the aliens a bit of a background story, just a bit. In these types of movies they often forget to explain the aliens; original Independence day, Mars attacks, Oblivion, Edge of tomorrow, War of the worlds... IIRC aliens are there to kill us all and that is their whole story. Instead they focus on some random personal drama of the main characters which we seen in TV shows and billion movies already.
The book Edge of Tomorrow is based on (All you need is kill) actually has a really nice and dark background story on the motives of the aliens. Sadly they never mention it in the movie... but you can keep their motivation in mind.

Hiller shouldn't have got himself one of those.

Did you actually watch the trailer, or.. Because I think technologically humans are still overshadowed

But this is just meh
The problem is that the original wasn't a deep, thought provoking movie. It was just action schlock itself. It'd be weird and awkward to go from a movie that exists to be action/disaster porn to some story of recovery and rebuilding. Also, Will Smith turning it down doesn't mean much, he hasn't exactly been at the top of his game lately. He's also, surprisingly enough, not a very prolific actor. IMDB gives him only 37 acting credits to his name. For comparison, an actor like George Clooney has 76 credits. And within the original, Jeff Goldblum has 107 acting credits, and Adam Baldwin comes in at 117 acting credits. So, its actually not such a big surprise. Also, he's making two new Bad Boys movies in 2017 and 2019, so make of that what you will.
ugh.
Bad Boys II.
UGH.
The original movie, although a shallow disaster alien movie, had great interactions and one liners by the characters. David's dad was the best though.
No matter what anyone says, the original Independence Day will still be a classic and a good movie to me. I'll be sure to see this one with my parents, since always enjoyed the first too.
Ordinarily, I would agree, but I see this working better than most sequels like it (at least from a conceptual level) because it does seem like a logical progression from the first film. Humans adapted their technology and we see that they were biding their time before an even bigger assault (because it was unlikely there wasn't a planet full of these things). As far as contrived sequels go, this one seems like a fairly logical one to put out, and it looks to be a fun popcorn movie.
I doesn't look like they were biding time, it looks like they responded to a distress call from the other aliens.
Yeah not at all. We humans only had 20 years to use this tech as our own yeah its advanced but we are not matured into this tech like aliens have for who knows? thousand of years of expierence with said technology. Also its a sequel I would not want it any other way this looks like fun movie.
You're talking about the same aliens who were brought down by a computer virus and a nuke, who were defeated without being able to explain how they were defeated to their counter parts. If anything they would be surprised by the fact humans stole their technology and it's not as though the humans just welded it to the F-22s or something, they looked at it, figured it out and reproduced it. Combine that with more 20 year more advanced computer viruses and other improvements and I'd say the humans do have a pretty solid chance.
